biff malibu had a good question awhile back about saving the results of explorations... meta saves the results of the last in your favorites...
and of course you can save that list anywhere yourself...
now if we were talking about something simple like; c>mov(c,10,s) the results would be of like kind..... so that’s kinda clear cut…
but what if it were a complex exploration..... such as the one posted earlier or maybe something along the line of john murphy’s pattern recognition explorations..... if you save the results, all columns combined and saved in alpha order...... later when viewing those, there’s no way to resort by column so its difficult to tell which pattern was recognized....
there will be times when it would be helpful to save them in some sort of orderly fashion.... it's a little tricky but can be done....
when running explorations, don't forget to check the rejects.... there might be some worthwhile info.....h

Hayseed: Just read and noted your instructions for saving the results of Explorations in the order or rank that you want them saved in. This has been bugging me for awhile so today I thought I'd see if I could find a solution here in the forum. Thanks so much! I really appreciate it.
Best,
Shelley

hey shelley.... thanks for reminding me about that link..... had been meaning to update it to include excel.... excel allows for resorting at later dates also....
it also allows for hyperlinks which should enable us to open the metastock charts from excel..... for some reason can't get it to work right.... still studyin on it.....h

Hayseed,
It seems MS 7.0 had the feature you are talking about. In MS 7.0 the favourites showed the securities in the sequence in which they were added. So we could rank the results of an Exploration and then save those ranked lists to favourites and they stayed that way. However, I think this feature was not by design and somewhere along the way they made sure that the favourites were sorted alphabetically. Obviously, the wonderful feature we are talking about was lost.
This feature was so powerful and so many things could be done with the help of Ranked favourites, that I have continued to use MS Pro 7.0 inspite of having upgraded to MS Pro 9.0. Further it saves lot of time and adds efficiency. I could scroll through various securites by clicking the NEXT or PREVIOUS button on the chart toolbar and move to next or previous ranked securites. (The list in the "Choose a Security..." also stayed ranked in ver 7.0)
I feel the solution is not very complex - On the options or Tools menu of the open security dialog box, a facility can be provided where the user can select whether he wants to have NonAlphabetical or Alphabetical Favouties:
One more small related issue: we can make a selection whether we want to view the list by Symbol or by Name if we are opening a local Security, - however if we are opening a security from Favourites then this feature is not availble at the moment. I have to go to local security tab - change the selection - come back to favourites if I want to change this setting. It will be good if we could make the selection between name or symbol at the favourite tab itself without going through this workaround.
I was not sure if many users wanted to have this Feature, however your posts suggest that it can be useful to many users. Let's look forward to have a solution soon.
Regards,
SMG

hey smg.... yall are lucky having seen those changes over time.... its those slight but important differences that used to so confuse me so.... my first version was 9 and with most on the web written up for earler versions, it would burn my mind at times relating the 2..... patrick/marilyn/kevin among others changed that for us......
never was sure what metastock version guppy used in his illustrations but his site helped also..... h

Hayseed,
This feature was not documented in ver 7. As I said earlier it is possible that this NON Feature might have crept into without intention. It was only while I was doing some trial and error that I came across the possibility to use it in such a manner.
However, it will be very good if this feature is now introduced by design in the future releases/versions of MetaStock.
Regards
SMG
