Setting the compatibility to Win2000 might work. It fixed exactly that problem with MS and Downloader versions 6.52, 7.03 and 8.01 on my XP Home PC when SP2 was installed. I don't have those versions installed on my XP Pro laptop but I'm sure setting up compatibility is not going to do any harm. Roy

How do you set the compatability? I am having the same problem. Metastock shuts down whenever you try to open a file.

־ Right-click on your MetaStock shortcut and select properties ־ Click on the Compatibility tab and select ‘Run this program in compatibility mode: Windows 2000’ ־ Click on ‘Disable visual themes’ ־ Click OK ...

The DownLoader has a separate shortcut that you would also need to set the same as the MetaStock Shortcut.

Also, if you are a Reuters DataLink subscriber, we can email a copy of the DownLoader 10.1.

Sorry , I'm not a Reuters DataLink subscriber. If I set the metastock short cut as the same as Downloader short cut both will shut down if I click File - Open. If I don't set the metastock short cut any compatibility it works fine. Can I use ms 8.0 downloader. Do you have any other advise. Thanks you !

Any version 8 or later you would not want to have compatibility mode enabled. Compatibility mode is simply a work-around to allow 7.2 or earlier versions to run (mostly) without error on Windows XP.
