I was having a think whilst answeing Claude's cycles question about the PREV function.
Where does its logic come from?
Surely when the code cutters were inventing this little gem of a function, they must have been taking some serious drugs?
If the Ref(data array, periods) function looks at the value of a data array _periods into the past or the future, then surely:
x:=Ref(x,-1) should equate to x:=PREV ???
I know in MS you cannot have self referencing formula (like x=x+1) but isnt that what PREV is doing? Referencing itself, at the previous bar?
Maybe this is something that should be looked at in future versions of MS?

I don't know what drug they used but it was a good one :)
You are right the prev is like self referencing and I'm actually happy it is there because it is quite handy. Sure it would have been better to have something else but it's better than nothing :D
Changing the way formula writing is done would be a huge project, I doubt this would be for anytime soon.
