Hi: Anybody running Metastock on Dual processor box. One of my friends has one and I'm wondering on "borrowing" :) it for an extended period if the analysis speeds up. I have a crappy box BTW.

I too have a 'crappy' box and found that with the aid of some better coding, applying a little bit more logic to my searches and reducing the 'universe' of stocks over which explorations are run, then I don't need a second processor. I only explore over "proper" stocks, no warrants, no options. This speeds things up A LOT! My explorations only work a defined universe anyway (well, two universes really), the ASX200 and shares 10c-20c. This means that on average I am only exploring about 350-400 stocks from the 1500 or so stock listed on the ASX. With a trading filter in place first too, I only search over stocks that are active within the last 15 days. I save these results, and run the remainder of the exploration over these returned stocks. (Have a look at Richard Dales excellent date filter add-in: http://www.tradernexus.com/nexusdate/

MetaStock and most other software are not designed to take advantage of a dual processor setup ... Patrick

I WOULD SAY THAT A COMPUTER OF AT LEAST 2GHZ P4 OR AMD EQUIVILANT, 512MB DDR RAM ,WITH A 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE AND 64 MB VIDEO ACCLERATOR CARD PORTED WITH A HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION WOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR ONLINE TRADING AND ANALYSYS. HOWEVER WITH COMPUTER HARDWARE COSTS DROPPING ONE COULD GET A 2.2GHZ 64BIT AMD PROCESSOR POWERED SYSTEM WITH A 160GB ATA HARD DRIVE DVD BURNER ETC. ETC.. WITH A 17" LCD MONITOR FOR 1000 DOLLARS USD... POWER IS IMPORTANT TO AN EXTENT. YET WE POWER TRADERS USING CUSTOM SCRIPTS UNLIKE THE OUT OF THE BOX TRADERS SHOULD NOT SPARE ON THE POWER BUT STAY WITHIN THE MINIMUN SPECIFICATIONS AND SPLURGE WHEN CAPABLE TO THE TOP PERFORMERES. Patrick, I know that there are few programs at this time that take advantage of dual processors, but will Metastock work on them?

MetaStock and most other software are not designed to take advantage of a dual processor setup ... I'm surprised you say this Patrick. I thought I was just reading that MetaStock is multithreaded and as such is already setup to take advantage of multiprocessor systems. Did I not read this correctly? Perhaps it was some other platform....in any event my guess is Equis will soon want to put out a multithreaded version if MetaStock is not already coded as such.

MetaStock is NOT multithread capable. You must have misread ... I hope it will be in the future. Patrick
