Hi, I have MS 19 installed on a desktop PC and recently I also installed it on a laptop. Currently I am unable to update, via the backup/restore function, my custom files including the custom lists, which I created on my main desktop PC. The problem occurs because the backup on MS tracks the directory where the data is located, and in my case they are located on a dedicated hard disk to which win assigns the letter E. Unfortunately my laptop/win has assigned the letter E to the DVD player. If I restore the backup data, I copy the 19 folder into its correct directory, when opening MS it does not recognize the lists because they have been directed to the E directory which is not available. How can solve this problem?
Thanks

Hello, The CustomLists folder is a subfolder of the 19.0 folder, located in your User folder area. C:\Users\(Windows.User)\AppData\Local\Innovative Market Analysis\MetaStock\19.0 If you are manually moving the MetaStock files into this location on your new PC, MetaStock should see these lists. However, if these lists are referencing Local Data, and that local data is under a new drive letter, then the lists will not be able to see the local data on your new PC. Unfortunately in a case like this the Local Data Lists would typically need to be recreated. In theory you might be able to edit the various Local Data List XML files within the CustomLists folder and change the folder path referenced, but this isn't really a supported method. Still, you could always make a copy of your CustomLists folder as a backup, then open the individual XML files (some lists could be online lists, some could be local lists) in Notepad, and do a Ctrl-H (Find & Replace to change the folder path references to the new local data folder path). It might be easier to simply just recreate the local data lists, and again we can't really support manually editing the list files like this, but I mention it in case it is something you want to try.

I tried to manually edit the XML files but there are 635!!! In the end I unmounted the DVD, created a partition E, now free, reinstalled the DVD and that's it.
But it seems crazy to me that you can't restore a backup from one PC to another.
Thanks
