I have MS7.2 which runs well on Win XP

my prev laptop didn't have a diskdrive so I copied the CD  and installed it  that way & it worked fine

my new laptop is Win10 but Ms.7.2 won't load at all-- the disk is not recognised by the diskdrive  & won't start

tried Compatability mode & Administrator mode  but no good

I remember Roy Larsen used to run this  also

any suggestions how to get it started

Hi,

Just to clarify, you have 7.2 on a CD and the CD is not recognized at all within Windows Explorer, or it just does not autorun? If the CD is not recognized at all (i.e. you cannot go to Windows Explorer and click on the CD drive and see the CD contents) unfortunately unless the CD can be made readable (might be scratched/warped?) you may need to look at upgrading, since this version was not downloadable.

Even if the CD could be read, you could potentially run into issues using this older version on Windows 10 due to compatibility issues, although it is possible you might be able to get it installed and running (assuming the CD can be read) by using Windows Compatiblity Mode settings and running the installation as Administrator.

You may want to contact our Sales or Support directly to see if there might be anything that can be done to get the program installed - https://www.metastock.com/company/contact.aspx

Hi, First thanks for your reply-- I'lll follow up your suggestion

yesterday I reinstalled it from the disk on an old Win XP machine ok

then I tried it on my prev laptop on Win 8.1 -- this has no diskdrive so i copied the disk  to a USB & installed direct ok from that

on newer laptop with Win 10, Win Explorer sees the drive but after clicking Setup.exe, starting box come up then nil

tried it in Compatability Mode  -- no result

as Administrator in Compatability Mode -- nil

repost to MSFT -- nothing happened

actually have had it running on this machine prev

You might want to try installing in Safe Mode, which you can enable in the MSCONFIG > Boot tab (Checkmarking the Safe Boot option and restarting the PC). We have seen issues with the older InstallShield (which 7.2 would be using) in some newer systems, which I believe we have been able to work around by doing the above. If that works for installation you should be able to go back to Normal Mode (by disabling the option in MSCONFIG) and run the application, which may require some of the things you've done (Compatibility Mode/Run As Admin) to be set permanently in the MetaStock shortcut properties.

I would also suggest Running As Administrator on the Setup.exe while in Safe Mode. When this installation was created it really didn't have to deal with elevated privileges as our newer installers do, so you may run into File/Folder permission problems if you do not do this).
