For MetaStock 11 and prior, the folder to back up would typically be C:\Program Files (x86)\Equis\MetaStock

For versions 12 and later, the folder(s) to back up would be:

C:\Users\(Windows.Username)\AppData\Local\Thomson Reuters\MetaStock (Formulas)
C:\Users\(Windows.Username)\Documents\MetaStock (Charts,Layouts,Templates)

Edited for clarity. They should be within the MetaStock subfolder of Equis. Formula files for versions 11 and prior would be generally as follows: MS11FORM.DTA (Indicator Builder formulas) MS11EXPL.DTA (Exploration formulas) + Explore folder (stores exploration results) ST_DATA.MDB (System Tester formulas) + Results folder (stores part of system test results) MS11EXPT.DTA (Expert Index) + Experts folder (Experts formulas) You can run the MetaStock formula "Organizer" and import from any folder that contains the above files.

Hi MS Support Want to clarify abit Thee dta files are already in the equis sub folders with users create the indicators without using the indicators builder export? Or are you saying users have to first manually export the indicators experts and systems to the equis folders? The problem is currently the window is not bootable and thus not possible to open the software indicators builder to export the indicators experts and systems. They are on the indicators list but yet to be manually export to dta files. And thus the thread title is how to backup the indicators experts and systems without opening the software. Thanks

I'm not sure I understand the question, but the files I mentioned would contain the built-in formulas of MetaStock, and any custom formulas that you might have created. By simply backing up the MetaStock folder, you are backing up any formulas that were available in MetaStock. I am not sure what you intend to do with the backup, but assuming you are planning on using them on a functional PC, then you would run the FormOrg.exe (or "Organizer" from within MetaStock's Power Tools), and go through the Import wizard to import them into MetaStock. You could potentially overwrite the files that get installed as part of a clean installation with your backed up versions, assuming the same version of MetaStock is used.

MS Support But the problem is the dta have not yet generate manually using the export button Or are you saying the software has auto generate the files in the folder and user do not have to manually export and backup the dta files.

The format MetaStock uses to store built-in and custom indicators is the same format we Import/Export from, yes. You can Import by simply pointing to the old MetaStock folder as long as it contains the files I mentioned above.
