I'm new to Metastock, transitioning over from ChartSmart.
With ChartSmart I could filter through any number of stocks using criteria that was easily configured. The filter looked like this:
Last Traded Price greater than x, less than y.
Daily # of trades greater than x
Daily Volume in Number of Shares greater than x
Earnings Per Share greater than x
EPS is up each yr in last 5 yrs
Once the filter was ran, than I could scroll through the charts that met all the criteria.
To do this in MetaStock, I assume I need to use Explore? Is there a simple way to select the criteria that I need, or is a Formula needed?
Much appreciated.

Hi,
MetaStock's Explorer is very customizable. While there are several screens that probably do some of what you want, a custom scan would be needed to meet your exact criteria. Additionally, fundamental data is not directly accessible within MetaStock and is not part of the DataLink data service so you would not be able to screen by this criteria. # of trades is also not something available in the market data. Basically you will be getting Open, High, Low, Close, Volume, and Open Interest data with DataLink.
Once you perform screening on the technicals, you can Save the List in your report (creating a watchlist basically). Once you've made a watchlist it is very easy to cycle through charts of your watchlist. "Research" links are available in the right-click menu of our charts that allow you to view the current fundamental data. Historic and deeper fundamental data would only be available on our real-time platform (within the XENITH application, not directly within MetaStock Realtime).
As for setting up a technical screen based on price and volume, you can create a New Exploration and put the following in the Filter tab:
C > 10 AND C < 100 AND V > 500000
You can of course adjust these numbers to your own close price and volume preferences.
The Columns (A through L) in the Explorer can be used to report additional information you may want to know about the securities without actually screening them by these values. For example, you may want to know what the 50 day average volume is for these securities even if you're not screening by this value so you could put:
MOV(V,50,S)
