Hi,
I have recently subscribed to Metastock Datalink.
Is there a way to "batch convert" symbols that are downloaded via The Downloader?
The symbols in Metastock database is different to the actual trading symbol used by the broker/exchange. I need to convert them, trawling through 3000 symbols and correcting does not seem appealing. If there was a utility to batch convert or read from CSV and replace the symbols that would be really helpful.
Another question, the only main source of stock information is the actual exchange, the information then gets delivered to Reuters and then via The Downloader to us. I am pretty sure the exchange does not change the symbol convention while sending out data, so, why does Reuters decide to change symbols?

There would be many ways to pull this off. One would be converting the MetaStock data to Excel or CSV format using The DownLoader's Convert (Tools>Convert) feature. Then using some clever macro automation within Excel to change the symbols as needed.
