hi,
when i convert my text data( minute resolution data) through the downloader it only converts the first couple of years.i think the limit of 65500 bars is causing this. Is there a way to convert the complete set of data. My data ranges from 1998 to 2013
Regards
Amar

You are quite right - it is because of the 65,500 bar limit.
The only way would be if you split the files. Make sure there is a header in each file.

Hey Thanks Haddison
Can i convert the data through a third party software so that i dont have to split my files. Splitting 50 gb data would just kill me.

Thanks Haddison
Are u aware of any?...i was thinking of purchasing convert2metastock from trading-tools.com. Have you heard about it? The data cost me more than a thousand dollars and i intend to purchase more as my testing depends on it. But this crap conversion thing is driving me crazy and to be honest i am not good with technology or coding...hahahah...my bad
Anyways thanks for replying, atleast you cleared some doubt regarding the splitting of files. If you have any more suggestion please let me know....this thing is really important for me.
Regards
Amar

Yes, I've heard of trading-tools.com and their software. They do have a 14-day trial version available. Even though I don' t need it, I downloaded it and installed it just to see what it's like, but I couldn't get it to work as it's quite old and I'm running Windows 8. I even changed the compatibility settings.
May I please ask where you get your data from? Is it forex data?

Yes, even i tried the trial version but it would convert just the first 50 lines hence was useless. I think i'll try the full version. Do you know of some other 3rd party software ? I got my data from quantquote.com. No its not forex. I want to trade forex in the future and i am working on a low risk system for the same.

The reason why I asked whether it's forex is because you can download data for free, even tick data. Some say that all free data is poor quality - this is incorrect - yes there is a lot of poor quality free data on the internet, but not all are. You will find many errors even in paid-for data (I know this from experience). The quality depends on which company you get it from rather than whether it's free or not.
Would it be possible if you sent me a PM of the header and one bar of data? Maybe my program can already convert it.
