An Exploration causes MS to freeze - but only when I use it abroad!

Very odd. I use the explorer very frequently, but last week for the first time I took my laptop abroad (Philippines) with me. It consistently froze / died as soon as I pressed the 'Results' button (having done the calculations without complaining), and I had to kill MS in Task Manager. Brought it back home: everything running smoothly.
Any suggestions? I'm assuming that no connectivity is required when using The Explorer so that can be ruled out. But what else could it be?
Thanks - any suggestions welcome.

However, one random occurrence does not say much. To know the exact answer, you must travel to Philippines 100 times and tally the results to see if the ratio is in favor of supernatural forces or against it. [:D]

Connectivity is required if you are using MetaStock 12.0. So I can only assume that you are accessing local data with version 11.0 or under. Is this correct?

Thanks John. Yes I am using MS version 11.
The bizarre thing is, data downloads fine, the explorer runs without any problems, it's simply when I attempt generate the reports that MS dies and needs to be killed in task manager.
Is there any requirement for MS to have connectivity for the report generation? It seems unlikely, and anyway there are no apparent problems for the data download...
At least, I'd hope that MS would report any problem then exit gracefully.
This is a repeatable issue. On returning home (Hong Kong), no problems with the report generation.
I know this sounds like one of those 'IT helpdesk user error' issues, but I'm putting it up here in case anyone else has had similar experiences, or in case there's something subtle I'm missing.
Is there any kind of error log I can look at?

Tim,
If you are using local data, you do not have to be connected to the internet in any way to run metastock 11. Once an exploration is done and a report saved, no internet access is required to view the report. I do not see how this could be a connectivity issue based on those facts. That does not mean you are not seeing the issue. It just says the internet speed or ability to reach a specific site or server is not the issue.
So to resolve this, a few other questinos must be asked:
1) were you running any new or different software (maybe a specific security program or utility to connect to the internet
2) did you get any error message or did MetaStock just stop responding?
3) did you have any more or less monitors connected to the computer when you were abroad?
4) did you have any difficulty in any other programs?

Hi there,
People do not connect to more monitors when they travel. [:D]
Hard-drive scandisk, defragment, full anti-virus scan could restore Tim’s machine to its former glory.
Uninstall and re-install MS.
Also, install latest Windows updates. (From my experience, every time any of my PCs acts funnily, I remember it’s time to update my Windows XP SP3. After I do, I have absolutely no headache with it for months at a time). [:)]

The monitor question was because I did not know if a docking station was used at either end. My suspicion is that normally the exploration reports are viewed on a different monitor and the monitor configuration was different when traveling. In that case, the report would still try to appear on other monitor, even if it was not connected. This would cause MetaStock to appear locked as nothing can be done in the program while an exploration report is open. The report must be closed to return control. Pressing the Escape key would close the report, even if it was not visible at the time.
A re-installation at this point would resolve the issue, but there is a better option. The MetaStock registry can be reset by starting it while holding the Control and Shift keys. This reset will change most of the application options back to the installation defaults, including where the exploration reports are displayed.

I actually believe it is a monitor issue, since yes I was hooked up to a new monitor abroad.
I suspect that MS was generating a window, but was putting it 'off the screen' of the new monitor, so I couldn't see it or click any relevant buttons. It appeared to freeze, but actually was waiting for user input - which I wasn't giving since I couldn't get to the window.
I've noted your point about resetting the registry, but it seems a shame to reset all the defaults when it's just the location of one window.
Anyway I'll figure out a solution from here, even if it involves buying additional monitors abroad.
