MS 12 EOD - Can you do system test on saved charts?

The problem I've noticed with vers 12 is that compared to previous versions where your data was on your computer, you cannot have different notations/studies on the same security very easily. For example if you pull up SPY chart where you had some notations documented, it comes up on every "SPY" chart you have, unless you save them with a different name, as having the same security in a different favorite's folder has no effect. Thus to my point. I ran a system test on a security (SPY) & saved it, but I am unable to pull up that saved chart to run the test again. That is, when you go to run the test again, you can't choose a security from your saved file. I have notations from previous trades on the SPY chart in my favorites, but don't wish to have to delete them every time I run a system test when I save the chart again. Has anyone figured out how to do this in an easier fashion? Thanks

When you say "notations" are you referring to the buy/sell arrows that appear after selecting "Plot on Chart" from the System Tester?

I was referring to for example trade notes that I placed on the charts.

MS12 supports online access
to data only. For that reason only one smart chart can exists for a
given instrument. And system tests do not access saved chart
files...they only access the data associated with those charts.
You can save as many chart files (with unique notations) as you want for a given instrument (i.e. File>Save as>Chart), but only one automatically saved chart (i.e., smart chart) is saved per instrument.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the trade off with faster access to the data, versus taking the time to download it to your computer, where you have more options once you have it downloaded. Thanks for your reply.

Yep. That is a good point. Early in the dev of MetaStock 12 when we decided to move away from local data access, our main concern was the affect on exploration speed. With each new build we compared exploration speeds against some benchmarks. The primary benchmark was the time required to explore 500 instruments. The goal was to keep the overall time of exploring as fast or faster than MetaStock 11. We compared the time required to run XYZ exploration in MetaStock 12 using online access versus the time required to download local data with the DownLoader AND run the same XYZ exploration in MetaStock 11. We were targeting the "average" user's experience where one runs two explorations per day. For MetaStock 11 EOD users with DataLink, we estimated a two-fold overall speed improvement. With MetaStock Pro 11 we estimated a five-fold improvement (the old QuoteCenter datafeed was very very slow). With that said, folks that are running more than two explorations per day on more than 500 instruments, will probably notice a slower overall time. However the hassle-factor of maintaining local data is a benefit for all.
Thanks.

Was this done with "Load Minimum Records" unchecked? If so, how many records were loaded?
