Have MS v9.1 and all of a sudden, when I attempt to open a layout - a window pops up "MSWIN has encountered a problem and Needs to close - Tell Microsoft about this Problem".

Anybody have any suggestions? I am stumped ! ! !

Thanks!

several questions need to be answered:
- what version of windows are you using?
- is it just this layout or all layouts
- can you open a new chart of the security(s) in the layout using the clean template

depending on those answers, further questions would be:
- are you using local or online data
- if online, have you tried clearing the data on demand cache
- do other charts have the same issue.

If possible, I suggest calling our support department or contacting them via chat

WinXP
Any Layout
No Chart will Open

Local Data
I have opened some Smart Charts, but others will not open.
For instance Lean Hogs. When I looked in the L folder, Everything was DELETED.

I also notice that it keeps putting these files in the folders.

~MSFL.INX; ~MSFL.LCK; ~MSFL.SEC; ~MSFL.USR

This is what shows up in the EVENT VIEWER;

Faulting application mswin.exe, version 9.1.0.0, faulting module mswin.exe, version 9.1.0.0, fault address 0x0019293e.

Please Help!

The ~MSFL files are always created when MetaStock accesses data from a folder. They are normally deleted when MetaStock is closed. However, the error you are getting is preventing this from happening. It is likely other files are also being affected.

This is an issue that needs to be handled through phone or chat support. It sounds like there are some issues with your data files but we could be weeks or months trying to resolve this through the forum while a single phone call is usually sufficent for most issues.

I believe I solved it. Here's what I did. 1. Restore MetaStock Folder with earlier BU 2. Ran Downloader, backtracked to fill in missing dates. Noted it had to create some new files. 3. Open Layouts as usual. Everything seems to work OK. Did my usual Weekend Analysis to update all charts. Made New BU. Will do Weekly BUs from now on. Thanks for the Help ... much appreciated. hbnmgr
