Hi all,

I have intraday data in excel file for one stock (with ticker ETE) and I am trying to convert them into a meta-stock file by using the Downloader. The intraday data are in the following format in excel.

DATE CLOSE TICKER TIME 06/01/2009 20,00 ETE 10:35:48 06/01/2009 20,08 ETE 10:40:48 06/01/2009 20,11 ETE 10:45:48 06/01/2009 20,09 ETE 10:50:48 06/01/2009 20,00 ETE 10:55:48 06/01/2009 19,98 ETE 11:00:48 06/01/2009 20,10 ETE 11:05:48 06/01/2009 20,10 ETE 11:10:48 06/01/2009 20,11 ETE 11:15:48 06/01/2009 20,17 ETE 11:20:48 06/01/2009 20,18 ETE 11:25:48 06/01/2009 20,24 ETE 11:30:48 06/01/2009 20,22 ETE 11:35:48 06/01/2009 20,30 ETE 11:40:48 06/01/2009 20,23 ETE 11:45:48 06/01/2009 20,19 ETE 11:50:48 06/01/2009 20,18 ETE 11:55:48 06/01/2009 20,19 ETE 12:00:48 06/01/2009 20,19 ETE 12:05:48 06/01/2009 20,18 ETE 12:10:48
I have manually inserted the first row with the labels of each column. The date is in a 'text' format as well as the 'close' and the 'ticker'. The 'time' though has the format of time.
I do not have values for high, low and open, but I assume they are not mandatory.

When I try to convert this excel into a meta-stock file, the following message appears:

Warning #810: No data from source file converted.
Error #816: Unable to open file.

Does anyone know the reason it can not open the xls file?

Is there something wrong with the format of my xls file?

A quick response would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have a look in the Downloader help files for converting data, especially from .xls format, date formats and column headers. wabbit [:D]

wabbit,

My excel is formatted according to the Manual of the Downloader and Metastock, and the headers as well as the format of the cells follows their guidelines.

This is why I do not understand why it is unable to open the file.

I have extensively read the manual but it seems that not all details are mentioned there.

Try exporting a file via the downloader to compare with your format.
I have had difficulty converting from excel . For converting to ms data I save it as an csv and change the file extension to txt in windows explorer then convert via the downloader.
Good Luck

Close the file and Excel BEFORE attempting conversion -- it's Excel locking access to the file.

Also, there might be a conflict between Downloader and your international settings for decimal separators (Equis is a US product and doesn't always play nicely with other than what it expects as "normal" values e.g. 1.23 vs 1,23)
