Is it possible to convert MetaStock formulas into Excel formulas? I'd like to create a spreadsheet in Excel that replicates the data held in a chart. For instance: In Excel Column A would be Opening Price Column B would be 21-day MA of OP Column C would be 56-day MA of OP etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Nicholas Kormanik

End of day (EOD) or real-time (RT)?

EOD In Excel there would have to be an entire column of formulas for any indicator. And MetaStock built-in indicators do not have a corollary in Excel. Seems no straight-forward direct connection between the two programs. MS doesn't speak Excel. Excel doesn't speak MS. Definitely appear to be road blocks. Please enlighten. Thanks, Nicholas Kormanik

I played with this, http://analyzerxl.com/products/data-analysis-tools/analyzerxl, some years ago.

It might help if you made plain what your purpose was.

Although there are a lot of limitations in MS, I'm wondering what analysis you're doing in Excel which cannot be done in MS, hence the need to have the MS data in Excel?

How many indicators are we talking about here?

Anyway, there are a number of ways to get MS data into Excel.

1. RTFM re: OLE (Object Linking and Embedding), or simply cut-and-paste. Unfortunately in the MS GUI you cannot multiple select chart objects (data and indicators) so each has to be done individually.

2. If you know how to program in Excel, to create the 'corollary' of functions in Excel, then all you need is a third-party application to read MS data in Excel (I cannot remember any specifics, but they are 'out there' on the net -- Google will be your friend).

3. If you cannot program in Excel (or don't want to) the next option to use the MDK (yourself, or have someone write it for you) to output the MS charted data to a .csv file (or similar ). This has the benefit of being able to write multiple tickers' data files. There are several ways to do, each with their own capabilities and limitations, so talk these through with your programmer.

4. There are some commercially flogged products, but I cannot vouch for them.

All sound advice. I hope someone here knows specifically how to efficiently accomplish the chore. The manual copy-and-paste way is the only way I know of so far.
