I want a quote list and I don't know how to do it. It would display several symbols in a spreadsheet layout with the price, open, high, etc. Can someone help?

If I read you correctly, I would try something like that in excel.
Might play around with :
Downloader-Tools-Convert (Options) to export the data you need.

This is actually very easy to do, but you will need to do it in Quotecenter, rather than Metastock Pro or EOD. I'm assuming of course that you have the Quotecenter application loaded as a result of the Metastock installation.

This may look like a rather long list for a simple function, but hopefully it's straightforward and easy to follow.

Firstly, start the Quotecenter application.

Select "File" at the top of the Quotecenter application and then select "New Blank Workspace".

Double click on the workspace and then select "Marke[censored]ch" from the "Add Display" pop up menu.

At this point you will need to customize the list. Font, Symbol list, # or rows, Template for the various fields and Ranking, if a specific order or ranking is desired.

Right click on the Marke[censored]ch display and select Properties.....Marke[censored]ch.

Select the Font tab and set the desired font for the Marketplace display.

The Symbol List can be done a couple of ways, manual entry for short lists, or copy and paste for longer ones. Once the column is pasted in, you will see the symbol data load.

If you’re using stock symbols from other countries you will need to load the symbol list in the “Country";"Symbol" format normally used in Metastock to bring up a chart. Load the symbol list in one Excel column and strip out any exchange code that doesn't match the Metastock format. I'm assuming that you might need to do this. ="ca;" appearance within the column itself, without the quotation marks.

To put the two columns together, in a third column, set the top row to: I'm assuming that column B has the country code and column A has the stock list. ca;rim

When your symbol list is complete, save it. This will cause the list to be saved in a Quotecenter BVL format in the Equis/Quotecenter/Packages/PK00 directory.

Another way to create and load a list is to copy the completed symbol list from Excel into a text editor and save it as a text file in the same directory.

Symbol List....Load......Browse......followed by a change in file type to "text files" to see all of the text files with that directory.

When that is complete you may or may not see the entire list, depending on how long the list is.

<li class="MsoNormal" style=">For a single column: field which shows the number of symbols in the column. Right click on the Marke[censored]ch display, and select Properties.....Marke[censored]ch….General Tab. <li class="MsoNormal" style=">For multiple columns: Select Properties…Marke[censored]ch….General Tab. You may have to fine tune this in order to account for the number of stock symbols in your list and the number of data fields that you’re using.

The next task is the data fields. The fields that are displayed, and their order from left to right, is controlled by the template settings. This will bring up the template editor. I'm guessing that the first thing you may want to do is clean out the existing fields. This removes the field. Expand the "All" selection on the left hand menu and scroll down through the list to select and load the fields you want.

Once that is complete, save the template.

If you wish to sort the list by using one of the fields, right click on the Marketplace display, select Properties.....Marke[censored]ch ….Rank Tab. Note that if at some point you change to another template that does not contain this particular field, you will not see the list sorted in the order that you may desire.

At this point your Symbol list and Field Template is completed. You can build any number of Symbol lists and Templates and mix and match as you desire. If not, the fields will not fill in as you would expect.

Lastly, save the entire Workspace itself. Done, .....complete.

    Notes:

There should be a pdf document which contains a list of the fields within your Equis/Quotecenter directory. This appears to be an updated version of the document. Although a good number of the fields are self explanatory, you might want to refer to the document to determine if the field you're interested in is actually going to work with stocks, bonds etc. There are other pdf documents in the Equis/Quotecenter/Packages/PK00 directory as well which contain field definitions. These may be worth looking at as well.

When the markets are open the data fields for the symbol list are updated dynamically, and if the ranking is enabled, will continually rank the symbol list in accordance with your selected field.

The stock data for US and Canadian stocks is cleared overnight in preparation for the morning opening.

    Okay, that should do it.

Thank you Typhoon for your very informative reply. However I'm using Metastock EOD (I forgot to mention), I think that Quotecenter won't do the trick because it's for Real Time. I use Reuters Datalink. Is is still possible to do what I want? Once again, thank you

Hmmm, thats a very good question. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for that one. I would suggest contacting online support to determine what you're able to do with Reuters Datalink and whether or not you have access to the Quotecenter application and if the data is real time or static EOD data. Because I have never used Metastock EOD I don't know if the Quotecenter application also installs when EOD is installed. However, I would say that if the Quotecenter application is installed as part of the installation package, I would expect you to have access to the data. The second pdf document that I was mentioning RST85_DataFieldDefinitions.pdf, is a Reuters Workstation document, so it leads me to think that it really shouldn't matter what your data source is.

Can you tell me if the Quotecenter application is loaded on your computer?

Can another EOD user offer some guidance at this point?

If you're using EOD and you aren't going to pay to upgrade to MS Pro (with or without QutoreCenter); simply write an exploration with the required columns and create a favourites list.
