Have MS EOD & created a layout of 5 charts. Layout stored in Prog(x86):Equis:Metstock:Charts.

I noticed that the layout did not update to current day data. I tried to insert above folder into Downloader (files to update) but was informed there were no charts in that file. Needless to say there are charts, layouts, templates, and a peanut butter sandwich in that folder. No comprende!

Page 137 bottom of MS 10.0 manual states only data saved with a layout is shown
when reopened. Please feel free to correct me. If that's the case you may be better off
with saving as smart charts, charts or maybe a template, then collecting your group of stocks in a folder. Sounds like a layout is used for a "snapshot" of a group of charts.

Thanks for the response. I guess I just don't understand the purpose of the layout. After extensive systems testing on my Top 5 ETFs I was hoping to set each one up on the "best case" basis and use the layout for daily review. Your suggestion of a "Favorite Folder" works just as well, though. Thanks again.

I'm probably as confused as you as how a layout could help me. I always go the
smart chart or chart route when saving my work. Maybe someone who uses layouts
can shed some light.

A layout is useful to open and organize multiple charts at one time. These can be the same symbol, but showing different time frames or differ but related symbols. For example, the BM Monetary layout shows two daily charts side by side as a way to organize 6 different plots. The BM NASDAQ and BM NYSE layouts show daily and weekly versions of the same data to give short and long term perspective.

Not all trading styles and systems benefit from layouts, but they are invaluable for those that do.
