.one more.. This may be just a problem with my version of MS10 EOD which I downloaded after purchase from the equis website: I had no problems with the installation at that time - about 2006. In 2010 however, I migrated to windows7 64 bit Home Premium and a new computer. The first installation was also fine but after a reinstallation of the operating system (not MS or virus related), subsequent installation attempts failed. The nstallation froze allways even during remote controlled session with equis support - who was really spending some time trying to fix this - however, we concluded we have to do the installation in safe mode.. which I found worrying since it did work in normal mode before. Eventually I discovered that windows defender blocked the installation (silently - with no notification) as it claimed to find two "password stealer" files within the MS10.exe file... also avira gave the same warning - which I think I had deactivated during the previous installation - even when it got blocked. Temporarily disabling Windows defender fixed the problem. Defender comes automatically with Windows 7 and many people are not aware if it has real time protection activated or not. Interestingly equis support did not think of this either (clearly they did not put a virus into their software on purpose..) - although I always had very good experiences with their online support people. Removing the virus leads to removal of the MS10 installation file - not what you want.. I don t think the virus is really there but I have moved my installation file to an external drive which I rarely use - just in case. I think the virus is also only detected during installation and not if scanned manually with e.g. avira - that s why I believe it must be a wrong positive.. You can access windows defender by going to start/ and type defender in "search programs and files" as it may not appear the Start menue... This is probably not a bug I hope and just a problem with my copy... but if not - this would need fixing :)

I did not have your same problem but I have noticed that Norton has become
very aggressive toward my .exe files so I have to watch carefully what it tells me to delete.
From what you are saying it looks like all the anti-virus programs are doing it.

Definitely good information. Security programs look for patterns of behavior. They may think a script being run during the installation is dangerous, a .DLL file is dangerous, etc. Recently we've seen AVG strip out one of our copy protection files (FileChck.DLL) which will prevent MetaStock from opening. In that particular case, we had some instructions regarding removing the file from quarantine and adding it to a "safe list" in AVG.

MetaStock's installation also launches additional EXE files, such as FORMORG.EXE. It seems like security applications sometimes do not like seeing an EXE launching another EXE.

FYI: I found the message that MS Defender gave when scanning the whole system: PWS:Win32/Ldpinch.BL Category: Password Stealer Description: This program is dangerous and captures user passwords. Advice: Remove this software immediately. Resources: containerfile: C:\All archives\Program archive files\Metastock10all\metastock101.exe file: C:\All archives\Program archive files\Metastock10all\metastock101.exe->(WinZipSfx)->_user1.cab->(ishld#0012)->(Upack) file: C:\All archives\Program archive files\Metastock10all\metastock101.exe->(WinZipSfx)->_user1.cab->(ishld#0013)->(Upack) My system: windows 7 home premium, 64 Bit; quadcore CPU(i7 720qm);3GB RAM; I downloaded metastock from equis a few years ago - maybe a virus attached itself.. or is it just the packaging of those two cab files...

The filename you mention does not seem to match the filename that Equis provide as the offiicial download.

Is Metastock101.exe a pirated version perhaps?
