Hi,
Today I tried this scan and found FPL on my list. I realized FPL's SMA200 is actually above the close, not below as coded below.
Question 1: How do I make the explorer filter more accurate? Question 2: How do I make the SMA200 display correctly? It is not shifting up and down of the price chart if I zoom in or out of the chart.
(CLOSE > 20) AND (CLOSE > Mov(CLOSE,200,S))
Regards, Lewis

Hi Lewis
Check the Options for your exploration and make sure that it's set to Most Recent Date rather than a Specific date.
The other thing you need to do is make sure that the SMA200 is scaled to the same scale as the price (left or right as appropriate). If you want an SMA200 on every chart you open a clean chart (no spurious lines etc. that you don't want on every chart), then once the SMA has been scaled correctly you need to save this change into your DEFAULT template (open a previously unopened chart, make any scaling changes, then right click in an open area of the chart and Save As Default Template). If you want existing smart charts to be corrected you'll need to delete them so that MetaStock can create a new Smart Chart from the ammended default template. Smart charts are stored in the SmartChart folders. Deleting the SmartChart folders instead of the charts can be a quicker way to get rid of unwanted charts, and MetaStock will recreate the folders and smart charts as each security is opened.

Hi Roy,
I have checked the Options for my exploration and it was set to "Most Recent Date". I don't have any smart charts created. I believed the scale on my right are the same. There was no left scale.
Today I did a scan for TFI has very difficult price chart from yahoo. My quotes were from yahoo too but the price in metastock is showing the price is above EMA30. Yahoo and my Thinkorswim chart was showing the price to be below EMA30. Did I set something wrong in my Metastock?

Hi Lewis
I have no idea what's going on with your various moving averages but what appears to be the situation with your charts is that the MetaStock data has been corrected for a dividend payment or something of that nature, and the other two have not (see the gap between 28th and 29th on the second and third charts). If I had to guess I'd say that the MetaStock data is right and the other two are wrong, but since I'm not familiar with the security in question I'm just guessing.
Only two things can affect where an EMA plots on a MetaStock chart - scaling, and the amount of data loaded.

Roy,
Is there any way to remove the correction in Metastock? The data from yahoo should be without correction (as seen from one of the pictures before). I think there was indeed a dividend payout on 29/12/2009.

I'm not sure how many other counters were correction but if they all were corrected, my filter will be distorted....please help.

Hi Lewis
An adjustment made to MetaStock data can be manually reversed using the Adjust tool in the DownLoader, but I'd be very reluctant to reverse an adjustment made for a dividend payment. Without the adjustment you're left with a false gap and any analysis will give a misleading result.

Hi Roy,
Do you mean it will be better to trade using the adjusted data rather than the common data found on the web like yahoo or google?
by the way, my other computer's chart has a left y axis. How do I remove the left y axis? The moving average was not moving with the price because of this left scale.

Hi Lewis
Yes, use historical data that is adjusted for dividends, splits etc. The price paid for a stock before a dividend includes the dividend but does not include the dividend once it's paid out. By adjusting the historical data you geta more accurate perceived past value, a value that is dividend-neutral.
To set up Scale Locations you must right-click in an open area of a chart and click on the top option - ChartWindow Properties. This opens up Chart Options, Scale Locations and Title tabs.
