I just purchased and downloaded 10.1EOD from Equis, and am trying to install it on Vista Home Premium.

It takes a long time (minutes) for the installation to start, and after 2 or 3 minutes, it complains it is unable to find the installation languages in the SETUP.LID file.

Anyone had this issue, or seen any magic issues relating to Vista installations that might be relevant?

Thanks in advance!

Quick Update:

I tried (for grins) to install in safe mode... It actually gets further, but then when it starts copying files, I get a copy error on msxml4.dll.

Hopefully that sparks some insight!

Thanks again!

OK, this is definitely a Vista issue. It seems to install fine on an old XP machine I have.

The MSXML4.DLL definitely occurs in Vista in Safe Mode, so that is not unusual. However, the fact that the install gets further in Safe Mode could mean some other application is interfering with this file or our installation.

You may want to try opening the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) clicking onto the Processes tab, and ending as many processes as you can, then try installing again. You do not want to End Process on EXPLORER.EXE or DWM.EXE as these need to be running for your Desktop.

Hi all, I have upgraded to Vista ultimate - however am having encountering problems installing metastock 10.1c. Upon clicking setup.exe - cursor is animated for a few seconds but nothing happens. I checked the task manager and it shows that setup.exe is running. I can click setup.exe X number of times, and it will show up X number of times in task manager. I have tried closing down all 'unnecessary' programs in task manager - but to no avail. I have also tried running as administrator from this thread (http://forum.equis.com/forums/thread/28068.aspx) and also running from safe mode (http://forum.equis.com/forums/thread/27739.aspx) but also with the same msxml4.dll error. I've tried this running off the original CD, as well as copying the files to my HDD. Will be calling tech support when they open later this morning. In the meantime, any ideas? Thanks in advance erko

That problem is almost exclusively due to something running in the background. The problem is there are so many processes that unless you happen to get the particular one causing the problem it will still sit there stuck.

When you open the Windows Task Manager and click to the Processes tab, depending on your security settings in Windows you will have a "Show Processes From All Users" button in the lower left - make sure you click to show all.

All the processes with your windows username next to them (aside from Explorer.exe, DWM.exe, taskmgr.exe and possibly taskeng.exe) are 3rd party/not required by Windows and can be safely ended. Restarting the PC will bring them all back.

The problem is that there can be processes labeled as "System" that can cause this issue too. With System processes though, you will have a large number that are legitimate Windows ones mixed with 3rd party ones, so it is not as easy to shut them down if you don't know which ones are which.

Thanks Justin.. Basically through painful trial and error - shutting down system processes (not to mention getting numerous blue screens!) - finally managed to get it up and running.. [:)]

Hi You can try in this way( for vista and may work for windows xp also) If u get an error like "unable to find the installation languages in the c:\users\... emp\SETUP.LID file" paste all the metastock installation files a copy in the folder , in which setup.lid file is not found. here it is "temp" folder now start installing from your metastock folder ( not "temp" folder) Again if you get an error with "MSXML4.DLL" file Place the installation folder on desktop and try still problem disable UAC and try All the best

Are you running the programs as "System Administrator"? Right click on the setup file an select "run as administrator"
