Is there any way to read the indicator file outside of MS. I want to save off indicators (I have the 2000 limit problem) but want to locate and export back single indicators, etc? A auto copy/paste into a text file would work. Or when you delete an indicator it prompts you if you want a "txt" copy of the delete created. Thanks.

Hi John, One way to achieve the desired result is to simply print all the indicators to a text file, see: http://forum.equis.com/forums/permalink/18544/18544/ShowThread.aspx#18544stall your virtual printer: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308579&sd=techy on your computer, then you can keep similar indicator files together in manageble groups should you need to reinstall them, e.g. I don't use the BM indicator set myself, so I have exported them to one file; I have the pp indicators in another file; etc. It would be a massive job to export all 2000 individually... The process of importing indicators is made slightly easier if you have the MDK, but this is not an absolute requirement. Hope this helps, or at least gives you some ideas on another way to tackle the issues. wabbit [:D] P.S. Its a good idea to keep the number of indicators, experts, exploration and systems to the minimum required for actual trading, as this keeps MS running at its optimum speed. Personally, I have different MSxxFORM, EXPL etc files for different situations and substitute these back and forward as I change what I am doing at the time. This is not always the best idea for "noobs" as it is very easy to something "wrong" and completely lose all of your indicators! Backups are mandatory to employ this approach.

I share your feeling, it may take hours to import / export indicators / experts / ESTs / explorers. Sometimes, MS may not be able to recognise the indicator correctly when the indicators' name are simliar. I have not done a scientific research, but it appears to me the MS could not recognise indicators when their name is different by their 5th / 6th or later characters, e.g. indicators like a123456, a123465. MS may confuse!

The problem with exporting the indicators etc is that the exported files all have the same name, so the user has no idea to what is contained in each file, and you cannot have two files with the same name in Windows directory. In order to allow the output, the user has to create a seperate directory (or destination folder) for each expoerted function, which allows the user to have siome insight into what each indicator file contains.
MS is pretty good with importing stuff, so I don't think names like you describe would be that much of an issues, when there are MUCH bigger issues to contend with first!

Thanks for your responses. I will look into your advise and post what I come up with. Right now I think I would want ([:D])on a delete of an indicator a txt file of the indicator is automatically created (or prompted for) with the name of the text file the same as the name of the indicator. Then I would feel more confortable with the 2000 limit.

Setting up the virtual printer was a piece of cake. A indicator print contained unreadable garbage in thr text file however? I need it in readable english. I will look into your other suggestions.

The garbled stuff is the password protected formulas. All the stuff that is readable are the non-password protected codes.

That is what I thought but I know and used the correct password (it prompts me), same as I use to edit the indicator? I printed a non-passworded indicator and it prints to the text file fine. Am I nuts or is there a bug? Thanks for your patience on this.

I don't have this problem, because any password protected indicators have been removed from my active indicators and archived (if I can't see how they are working, they aren't used). I have no need to password protect indicators etc on my own system, so nothing is protected; and hence I don't have any troubles printing direct from inside MS.
Why MS prompts for a password prior to printing and still prints garbled output... don't know. Perhaps one of the Equis members might look into this?
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help Wabbit. If equis says it's a bug that will eventually get fixed I can alway find a parse program to split the file into what ever I want or just keep appending to create one huge text file.
