How can I get a automatic data file containing the Russell Microcap Index members into the downloader(MetaStock Data File)?
Any suggestions?

hey nasdaq..... not really sure what your refering to by 'automatic data file'..... you can create a new local data folder and put all the russell micro components in it..... that's what i did for the russell 1, 2 and 3k indexs..... never did the micro...... h

Hayseed,
Thank you for your help and your quick response to my question. Do you copy the entire russell microcap index in the local data folder, or do you have to put ech symbol in one ata a time.
thank you

You can make a SYM file out of documents such as the one linked above, but there is a bit of editing involved (Cleaning out the page numbers, headers, etc).
If you were to select all the text in the document and then copy/paste this into a program such as Excel, you can then turn this into a list MetaStock can read. The format for a SYM file is to have the Name in Column A and the Symbol in Column B, although you can make a SYM file with just the Symbol (Symbol goes in Column A if you don't have a Name Column). Once the file is correctly formatted, choose:
File-->Save As Change the Save As Type to CSV (Comma Delimited) Put the filename in quotation marks with a .SYM extension (i.e. "Russell2000.SYM") Save this in The DownLoader folder (Typically C:\Program Files\Equis he DownLoader)

One of the other issues that you'll find with this approach is that the code list on the Russell web site was last updated in June 2007. There's been quite a number of code changes/delistings since then.
Cheers, Richard.
