Good morning
I am currently working through the text Metastock in a Nutshell by Simon Sherwood and have found it to be a great little resource to get me up and running with the very basics of Metastock.
I also have Louise Bedford's book Trading Secrets. In this she suggests using a 30 week and 15 week exponential MA which you use on a weekly chart. I am keen to have a go at creating this but am a little lost just how to go about it. Would this be created as an indicator (I have created a couple of basic indicators so have the basic knowledge), and if so would you need to create two (to get the different colours). Please excuse my level of knowledge - any assistance would be appreciated along with the steps if you have the time.
Regards, Mouse

hello Mouse. this one is so easy even I can answer it. on your selected chart, make sure you've got W on the bottom toolbar (where it's usually D for daily, just click it)
now click on Quicklist at the top, scroll down to Moving Averages, drag this down to your main window (the color should change on the Prices, indicating it knows what you want an average of)
& let go of it. it will now ask you: Time Period, put in 30. Method: choose Exponential. click OK
you should now have the weekly EMA30 on your chart. now go back up to the Quicklist on top & do the same for the 15, all that's left to do then is to select your favorite colors for the 2 MA's.
click on the required line & then go down to the color-chart at the bottom & select a color. repeat for the other MA-line.
you should then save it as a template. do you know how to do that? if not, ask. usually, it's me asking the simple questions. you will find they are really helpful on this forum!

Hello Amory
All done - saved as a template and tried it - all good! thanks heaps.
As you can see I am new to this forum and very new to Metastock. I have found this forum to be a great help especially when you are just learning (sometimes the most simplistic questions can cause the most frustrations when you're trying to work them out!) and I can see I will never stop learning with Metastock. I certainly appreciate the speed at which responses are made and the assistance given.
Many thanks once again.
Mouse.

The 15 and 30 moving average as a indicator is very common on equity indexes. Why is it as a system it won't generate any trades when the chart says that trades should be generated as it keeps crossing the MA lines. What special code do you have to insert to make it start of long one contract on open of the trading period.

Hello Tildfork
Your question is way above my level of knowledge at present, . I would suggest posting it as a new thread or maybe directing it to one of the more experienced users on the forum.
Regards, Mouse.

Once you are in Metastock, open the security you want to look at. In the bottom right corner select the periodicity. (Normally a "D") Click on this and select weekly. The chart will change to a weekly chart.
Move now your mouse pointer over the quick indicator on the top middle part of the screen and click on the drop down arrow. Scroll down and find the Moving Average indicator. Click on the indicator and hold the button in and drag it to the chart. Release the mouse button. A small window will open up in which you can select the parameters for your MA. Once this is done click OK and you will have your MA. Repeat the same process for the second MA.
Hope this help.

Hello Spooky
Thanks for the info - Amory was able to help too. You may be able to help Tildfork with his problem (post above yours) - i don't have that level of knowledge just yet. Thanks again.
