Hi there,

Here is my question: would it be possible for me to create my own real time data feed?
I get real time data through a file that is permanently updated, and I would like to use this to upload the data in real time to Metastock. Can I do it by converting this file to a certain format and continously updating it, or do I need to write a "data vendor DLL"? Would I need the Dev Kit?

I am a software dev, and I need to do this for a client who gets the real time data for free, and does not want to subscribe to a data vendor. They have Metastock Pro 10.

Thanks in advance,
Andrei

You'd have to get the read/rrite Dev Kit in order to be able to write a data file. We don't sell that version anymore as far as I know. I believe we only sell the read-only version.

If you were to get the read/write version, you could write the data to a file, but you'd have to refresh the chart in MetaStock in order to see any updates since the last refresh. They wouldn't show up automatically.

You cannot write your own data vendor.
You can get data out of MetaStock in real time, but not get it in in real time. The closest would be to keep updating the file and have the user refresh the chart when they want to see the latest data.

Branden,

Thank you for your answer.

When you say "The closest would be to keep updating the file and have the user refresh the chart when they want to see the latest data", you mean the file for each security? That would be in Metastock format, right?
Hitting "refresh" in Metastock would be ok, as long as they don't have to go through the Downloader.

Thanks,
Andrei

Correct.

Contact Equis Sales about getting MetaStock Developer's Kit. You'd need read/write version in order to be able to write to MetaStock data files. Again, I don't think we sell it, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
