Back-testing sucks. It never tells you the whole thing. It just runs "tests" on historical data and comeback to bite you in unmentionables.... but I agree with you on RMO totally.
RMO is a great indicator. But only as great as Appel's Triple Momentum or Tripple Smoothed ROC (where you buy/sell on "4" corssovers as compared to 0 crossover in RMO.
I'm sure the guy who designed Metastock 10 marketing strategy and "invented" the "taking by storm" line, must have already been fired!
