I am working on some predictive indicators with I need to be able to
display a couple of days into the future (i.e. without having any
symbol data loaded there yet)
Is there any way for a workaround in order to display the into the future?

hey ben..... this best way for that sort of work is to create a special test folder.... such as , make a copy of your dow 30 folder and rename it dow 30 test..... the point of that is to leave your orignial folder safe......
now open any chart in the dow 30 test..... right click on the price bars and choose edit data.... that should open the downloader and your charts data file.... you can add data one cell at a time or better yet copy and paste in months and years into the future...... holler back if i was unclear.....
oh btw, if i was clear let us know where the market is headed next week.....h

thanks hayseed, I knew that, but this is very cumbersome. Would there
be anything that could be done so that one could do that also with
updating through downloader ?
Regarding your question:
DISCLAIMER
The indicator I am working on is not yet statistically validated.
It is also hard to tell people something, indicators are here to take positions with controlled risk.
In some instances they will not work, and as a Trader you just close
out your position again in that case. If they do not work, you have to
trigger your stop.
The current Dow Jones Industrial Index scenario is that we would see a consolidation into March,
another uplege from there into May/June, and then a larger downleg.
NOT investment advice, but just for educational purposes....

hey ben..... perhaps i missunderstood your first post.... yes, there is another way to plot indicators into the true future but its success depends on the what the indicator is using as its data....
in other words, if the indicator uses data such as the open, high, low, close of a security , then my first suggestion is the only way known to me....
if however your indicator is something we can chart years in advance, like moon phases or similar, yes you can plot that into the future and then have 'csco' , or any security, download nitely to view the, if any, correlation as time goes by.....
so is your indicator of the type where we know today its values for next week now......h

thanks for following up with this again.
yes, this is an indicator that does NOT need price data, but can be calculated a couple of months into the future.
I know this works with data copy pasted from e.g. Excel - they are just
pasted in as "Indicator" and displayed as long as calculated - but then
I can't figure out how to access this "Indiator" (e.g. for a trading
strat), and also, this goes for testing a single asset, but would not
be scaleable for working with dozens of charts, right.
The indicator will in the future most probably be calculated from a plug-in that I will have somebody program with the MS SDK.
It would be crucial for me to display it a couple of weeks or months into the future.

hey ben..... instead of using your data as a indicator consider using it as the base security.... then apply other securities to it.....
you might remember jose's moon full calender which is an indicator.... using jose's thinkin we can create a true moonshine security, which is nothing more than a different way to plot moon phases but in a progressive view rather than jose's +/- 1's..... but in this case its a security not a indicator.....
we can download or cut and paste all our moonshine data years and years into the future..... then overlay our other securites on it.... i used 'beas' in that example..... now as we do our daily downloads the 'beas' data will update and any correlation or lack of can be seen...... both the moonshine security and jose's moon calender are plotted up to 2010.... 'beas' will update daily at download.....
there are other ways to plot into the true future but the 2 methods we have spoke of are the 2 most usefull.......h

hey jose.... it's a neccessary sideline to subsidize my forex losses..... hope all is well for you in shangri la....h
hey ben..... and of course we don't have to overlay.... we could put the comparrison securities in their own window..... then make a spooky predictive layout for ease of recall....h

ROFL [:D]
seems to be superspooky.
thanks for the idea,
a) is there actually a maximum number of securities that can be inserted into the same chart,
b) or a maximum number of securities that can be referenced to?
c) do I need to need to include the path for each security ?
BTW, I also have MetaStockCSV that allows me to import up to 100 columns to each security into Metastock.
One possibility might be to create an artificial "base security" for
each symbol that would be filled with a constant e.g. into 2010 and
then add the real updateable file into the chart or layout, as you
suggested.
So there wouldn't be any problems to sort of cross-reference between
all of these between charts/securities, and especially for trading
system or expert ?

hey ben.....
(a)....the only limit to the number of securities inserted would be the 10 window limit and also at some point the overlaying of securities becomes confusing....
(b) there is no technical maximum but a realistic maximum would be same as answer (a).....
(c) needing to know the path depends on how you place the other securities on the chart.... i usually just open both charts with the destanation chart having a empty window..... then click on and hold down on the price bars of the other chart and drag and drop in the empty window..... meta will do the rest......
i've heard that MetaStockCSV is handy.... that should help ..... and yes the artificial "base security" and layout route is what i used on the moonshine security.....
it might take some head scratchin at first but you should be able to achieve your goal.....h
