Hi everyone.
I'm wondering if there is a way to set the default period (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) when loading charts?
I'm using Metastock 9.1, and everytime I load a chart (regardless of what I was last viewing at) it comes back up at daily.
Thanks for any help!

On the File-->Open menu there is a Periodicity box in the lower left corner. If you change this prior to opening the chart, it will remember this setting. Changing it from the chart itself will not impact this option in File-->Open. MetaStock will always remember the last setting you had for this, so if you change this Periodicity box again under File-->Open it will default to this new periodicity.

Wonderful.
Thanks a lot for your help :)
EDIT: I've just gone to try that, but the periodicity drop-down is disabled, even if I select a chart. Is there a reason for that?

In my 9.1 EOD, this File/Open option is greyed out - all symbols are listed with Daily periodicity only and I can't change it. Is this due to the Daily periodicity of my default template?

My apologies, with Local Data you must open in the Periodicity that the security was downloaded in, then compress this to a higher time frame. However, if you saved a template from a Monthly chart, and also enabled the "Use Template's Periodicity" box under File-->Open-->Options-->Open With Template, whenever you apply this template it would open in the Periodicity the template was saved in. This option only works when you Apply Template or Open With Template, however. In other words, this checkbox option will not affect the Default template unless you go to File-->Open-->Options-->Open With Template and double click on the Default.MWT file. At that point it's probably just faster to open the security and change the periodicity in the lower right corner.

Thanks for that. Yeah, it probably is just easier to just change it once the chart loads.
Just out of interest, what is the periodicity drop-down for if not the local data??

With the System Tester you are able to change the periodicity with this box, even with Local Data. Also, if you subscribe to Reuters DataLink with MetaStock End of Day or with MetaStock Pro if you subscribe to eSignal or QuoteCenter, you will have a "Data on Demand" button below Favorites. When you have this button selected you can choose the periodicity you want to have the data open with.

Thanks for the clarification; I'm not losing sleep over this one, and generally just change periodicity by loading period-specific templates.
