I am considering purchasing MetaStock EOD.
However, I would need to export the price data of all or selected stocks from the MetaStock database to a text file (ASCII format) for input to another program.
Can this be done from within MetaStock EOD, and if so, how ?

MetaStock is a charting program. It will chart whatever data you give it.
Your issue is not with MS but with the data. Yes, MS only reads data presented in a particular format. If your data provider doesn't provide data in MS format, the Downloader (a program packaged with MS) can convert the data to the required format. It can also convert MS data to ASCII (and other formats) if you require this information for other applications. There are also a number of other conversion tools freely and commercially available to perform the same tasks.
But, if you get a good data provider, they will do the work for you and provide you the data in whatever format(s) you require. You are, afterall, the customer. Find a good data provider. It saves a lot of time and hassle.

sorry that I could not reply earlier, but my Internet connection packed up.
Your suggestion that I find a good data provider who can provide the data in whichever format I require, is probably the way to go.
