Kadip, This is a very common question and as such there have been many asnswers. Some of the solutions that spring to mind: 1. Get a decent data vendor. My data vendor moves stocks that are no longer trading from my main Equities folder to a Dead Equities folder. I keep the data on these companies for backtesting purposes but they do not figure in my explorations for current trading stocks. (Its also a good idea to keep Equities, Indexes, Options, Warrants and other derivatives in a separate location for better houskeeping. A good data vendor will also have a method to achieve this.) 2. Use the downloader to view the equities in a folder and delete them individually by the last date traded. This might have to be done every day if your data vendor sends you the data again for the companies that you have already deleted. Again, the importance of having a good data provider. 3. Check out a commercial product called StockDelete from Paritech ( http://www.paritech.com/paritech-site/support/stockdelete/

Wabbit-
Thanks a lot for the ideas-
fyi- I'm using Reuters data from Equis- I would have expected it to be cleaned periodically, but...........perhaps I need to switch to a cheaper and cleaner source!
Thanks- Ill try the solutions you referenced!

I am not sure of the Reuters data stream, but another option is to periodically delete all the data you have, then re-download the data as only those stocks still trading stocks are included?

Wabbit-
I just noticed an easy way to find and delete- the download report which occurs after every download shows all securities for which your system requested prices but for which no prices were available from the data vendor. Highlight them, right click and you can delete all at once- seems easy.

kadip,
Good tip. I am sure someone else will find this information useful. As for me, as I have mentioned, I leave all this to my data provider.
Thanks
