Hi I don't know what I have done, but I can no longer see the expert advisor commentary window! Has anyone else experienced this? More importantly, does anyone know how to fix the problem without having to re-install Metastock? Thanks Bikhod

Bikhod, Before you go doing anything drastic.... Right click on the chart and select Expert Advisor | Attach. This will open the Expert Advisors window. Select the one you want and then click "OK". Right click on the chart again, and select Expert Advisor | Commentary. The commentary will now open in a window above the chart. If you want the Commentary fixed in the chart, then right click on the Commentary title bar and select "Dock View" from the shortcut menu. These answers could all be found in the MS Users Manual. wabbit :D

Hi Thanks for the reply. My expert advisors is attached to the chart and I can see everything (e.g. symbols, highlights, trend, ...). When I click on the commentary window menu option, the black triangle appears on the charts on the first bar on the right, but the commentary window itself is invsible! As I say, I used to see the window before, but I just don't know what's happened to it and where it has gone!

Have you tried detaching the Expert, and selecting another expert? Then detaching that one and re-choosing the desired expert? I have tried to lose my commentary window - and couldn't - so something quite unusual may have happened on your machine? What version of MS doe you have? What operating system?

After the expert to which the commentary belongs has been attached to a chart, you can view the commentary by using one of the following methods: [list:5b1600df49][*:5b1600df49]Right-click the chart and choose Expert Advisor, then Commentary from the short-cut menu. The Commentary Window appears. [*:5b1600df49]Choose Expert Commentary from the View menu. The Commentary Window appears. [*:5b1600df49]Click the Expert Advisor button on the standard toolbar. Select the commentary to view and then click the Commentary button. The Commentary Preview Window appears. Use the Commentary Preview Window if you want to quickly scan through multiple commentaries. If no chart is displayed, the Commentary button is disabled.[/list:u:5b1600df49]
wabbit :D P.S. Hopefully you will have this sorted out really quickly, or someone else can help you tonight, because I am off to bed now. Good luck. I will check your progress in the morning :slwwp

hey bikhod..... can you apply other other experts to to charts and see those commentarys.... can't imagine why you couldn't but its one of those must ask deals.... more than likely its something centered around that expert..... use the apply clean template button on the lower toolbar and try applying the 'troubled' expert to a new clean chart...... does it work now..... is this expert something you've built or a standard one included with meta or its plugin's/addon's..... if its a plugin/addon its possible something has corrupted, though thats a wild shot..... you could reinstall them if need be.... have you by chance tried restarting your computer.... often just restarting meta can unhang issues such as these.... let us know......h

Hi I have tried all the suggestions (thanks) and still no commentary window! Does Metastock store window positions in the registry? If so, if I knew where in the registry it stores the info, I could go in and modify the X,Y coordinates...

I am not sure what the appropriate modification to the registry would be since it may require some hexadecimal value. I know you can reset the entire registry for the program and that will resolve the issue. If you launch MetaStock while holding down Ctrl and Shift you will be prompted to delete your user settings. Choose Yes and then retype in your first/last name on the followup prompt. Be advised that this will reset ALL options in the program back to the default settings, so any field in Tools>Options will be back to the default installed setitngs.
