Can Metastock 9 receive real-time data feed from MetaTrader 4? Hi. I just wonder if Metastock 9 can get data from MetaTrader 4. I need Metastock for some price analyses! I tried several times in vain. :? Could anyone mind telling me how to do step-by-step? Thank you! =D>

Basically I have a very complex trading system for Metastock. That's why I need MetaTrade to feed data to Metastock.

Have you tried to just write the expert in MetaTrader .... The language is more powerfull so it should be possible. I might be able to convert it for you but I'm worried by very complex because I do not have that much time ... Patrick

Thanks for your response, Patrick! From the sound of it, you seem to tell me it's impossible for Metastock to receive data feed. It's because this is the effortless method! Anyway, do you know if that is possible?

MetaStock cannot recieve real time data from MetaTrader. However, you may be able to read the data in and look at it and plot indicators, run tests, etc , but it wouldn't update in real time. The chart would update only when you click the refresh button on the chart. What format is MetaTrader data in?

Is the hotkey for refresh "F5"? Your method seems to be the only workaround (keep pressing F5 to keep it updated)! I just wonder if third-party application / API / DDE would help to solve this problem! MetaTrader data format is *.csv

Sorry, I don't remember what the key command is, if there is one. I only remember there is a little refresh button on the chart window. There is not a way to get real time data in a chart unless it is with a vendor that is included with the software (eSignal, QCharts, QuoteCenter). The DDE would be how to get the data fed to the chart and be able to hit refresh. To do it without that, you will have to import the data manually with the DownLoader.

As you mention Metastock can get the data from MetaTrader via DDE, the only problem is it can't be updated in real-time automatically. So how can I set up to make Metastock to read MetaTrader data? Does it simply open that file and keep pressing F5?

Any 3rd party support would have to come from the 3rd party developer. Really, how would you get it to work? That is a question for MetaTrader. There are many ways to get DDE info into MetaStock. Depending upon how you write the interface, it might as well be real time; if not, then quick time. You might want to see about creating an OLE link into MetaStock, because then your data would update as fast as your OLE source did. At least that is my experience. While it's neat, I have never found a practical use for it. All of my calculation needs (well, mostly) can be handled internally with MS. There are other non-MS features that can be developed for this route to augment the MS application though. I suggest you contact MetaTrader to hash out the specifics or look up OLE in the MS User's Manual. HTH, G
