Hi All,
1) Can I backup the setting of the "Custom Toolbar"?
After I have re-installed the MS, the "custom toolbar" will be all gone, it is a pain to set them once again!! I am sure that there is a way to backup the setting of the custom toolbar somehow..... anyone knows it??
2) Graphic of Icons
There are only limited number of icons that we can selected for the "custom toolbar".... anyone who knows how to add more other grahics of the icons, so that each of the icon of the "custom toolbar" is more recognizable...
please see the attached image

The MetaStock custom toolbar is stored in C:\\Program Files\\Equis\\MetaStock called MS70CTB.DTA. You could make a copy of this file and paste it in My Documents. I don't think this file gets replaced when you reinstall the program or upgrade but it never hurts to be safe.

Hi Pyradius,
Thanks for your advice, it works!!
Well, what I mean by "re-install" is that I re-install the whole computer, in that case, the customer toolbar will be all gone. Now I know how to backup this.
Anyone knows how to change or add more grahics to the icon selections??

hey gary.... when you reinstall everything goes that is in the equis folder.... it sounds like you know how to copy specific files, if thats the case its best to create seperate folder and copy all the user unique files.... meaning anything you've added to.... then after the reinstall just swap out meta's stock files with your previous copys and all indicators, experts , system tests and so on will be put in immediately....
seems like meta just starts a new row when you hit the end on the custom toolbar, so there might not be a limit..... with a little creativity several better ways exist to solve that delimea....
one thats simple is making a word doc that lists your charts in a very detailed manner.... then insert the hyperlink to that chart on your computer.... clicking on the hyperlink will load the chart or layout.... similiar to clicking on any link on this forum page loads that page.... if you have several disticnt themes it seems to help order keeping them in seperate word docs.... place those word docs on your lower toolbar...
another method if your handy with html, would be to create a web page with each of your charts listed in some sort of order.... again place that web page on your lower toolbar.... clicking it will give you access to the charts..... remember make them detalied.... otherwise you'll be clicking on a dozen charts to find the one your after.... 'web page' is just the term, your page does not have to be on the web, just your computer....
still another method, the best by far, is using java script..... that link will not work on your machine but will on mine..... the one i use is far more complex and gives me access to almost everything except templates..... reason being templates are applied , not opened....
if your fixin to reinstall meta, you can first rename the existing equis folder to something else.... the new install will not overwrite your old files.... then just swap out the new files...... there are a few caveats to doing that, once your sure you've moved everything delete the renamed equis folder.... multiple copies of meta are possible on one computer, but it brings on some strange happenings..... nothing's gonna explode but expect unusal events....h

Hayseed,
Did you ever find a list of those relavent DTA files?
Anyone, Pyradius for example, which of the DTA files should be copied as a backup for re-installations? Is there a list of what DTA file stores what information?

Hi Hayseed,
It sounds to me that you are not only a MS expert, but you are also a IT expert...... well, you must have spent a long time exploring MS and probably others as well ... in a very detailed manner.... which makes me thinking that you must be an expert in trading too.... all in a very detailed manner!!
well, I don't quite catch on those methods that you mentioned. can you explain in more details on how to achieve the goals that you have outlined?
Thanks in advance!
Gary

hey gary.... not really a ms expert by any means.... have had less than 2 years.... actually bought 9.0 for esignal and then set it aside thinking it was not for me.... several months later stumbled onto patricks/this forum which rekindled my interest..... most of my tinkering is just to make it more user friendly.... the front door to success is of more value if easily opened......
seems i have something written something on those methods listed but not yet posted along that line, will look it up and post....
can't remember what markets you trade, if by chance your here in the states , do you have a 'dow 30' folder... if so can you open each 1 at a time and apply several different indicators and/or experts to each and then close.... all 30.... also, if you do have a dow 30 folder, how exactly is it named, such as 'dow 30' or 'dow30' and the like...
noticed that link before must have been an unfinished version, made some corrections.... will add some thoughts to it later.....h

Hi Hayseed,
Still can't figure out how to handle as you said at least for the first two methods, could you explain it in more details?
thanks
