I use a couple of layouts that has 9 charts per layout and are all using the same “Default” template. My question is, is their anyway I can make changes to the “Default” template that would automatically apply to the rest of the charts that use that template without having to manually change each chart?

hey steve.... my experience has been that changes made to the default template are not retroactive.... any chart once opened creates a smart chart.... that smart chart stands until manualy changed or deleted.... if the smart chart is deleted the chart will use the new default template the next time it's opened, unless you choose the option 'open with template' and choose something other than default.... if there is a way to make the changes retro it has escaped me.....h

Thanks for the reply h...but your reply leads me to another question. Everytime I open a new security and just click on the open button (without using the pull-down to select template) it seems to use what ever template it feels like using at the time. It's like its cycling through my different templates. How can I get MetaStock to always use the same template when it opens a stock without having to always choose that template?
Thanks, Steven

If I understand correctly, you would need to perform a search in Windows for MSSMART and delete the folders it finds. Be warned this deletes all existing smart charts from your system, which forces MetaStock to use the default template again when you go to File>Open and try and open a smart chart again. Smart charts only look at the default template the first time they are opened.
File>New>Chart will always create a new standard chart. New charts always look at the default template.

hey steve.... it only appears to be cycling thru.... thats just the smart chart feature applying the last set of instructions for that chart or if a virgin chart , applying the default templates instructions....
if you use meta intensely and have not already used pyradius's suggestion, hold up abit...... his thoughts will work perfectly, however for intense users i might have a slightly better way....
will post tonite or tommorrow, depending on how much of a beatin the market dishes out today..... its hard for me to cry and type at the same time.....h

Make sure there is actually a default template... that it wasn't deleted by mistake. \\\\Equis\\MetaStock\\Charts\\DEFAULT.MWT
