I am amazed, lately, by how many tools I can find on the net that are addressing the features that are "buggy" or not available in MetaStock. I became painfully aware of the MS limitations in some critical areas ( MSFL-the Formula Language, Downloader data translation bug, real-time local folder updating incapability for Forex symbols, no multiple hourly Intraday time frames, missing higher time frames indicator support) In short these are the bugs/limitations I had identified: - MSFL: no loops support, no indexed arrays support, PREV is not a sufficient feature to build recursive equations necessary for digital filters. Other before me identified the lack of Case loops as well as other required programming language useful constructs, that are available from other MS competitors. The latest MS programming competition just highlighted the fact that a very basic programming task that can be achieved by using a single Case or Loop statement, can only be coded by using programming "tricks" and functions that were not meant for that particular use. Those coding "tricks" and skills are comming from long term MSFL users and their expertize is hardly achievable in just few years by an "average Joe" trader or even by professionals in the technical field. - Downloader data translation bug: the Time column is translated with a different time format than the original ASCII/CSV/Excel files. This is generating erroneous output for some add-on's/plug-in's functions (i.e. TDataCreate/TDataLocalize from PowerPivots Plus). I have filled a service request (that was closed by Equis) and have re-sent a detailed documented email to Equis tech. support but I got no reply to it. - The Downloader is not able to download any Intraday time frames symbols and is not on a priority list of buggs, as the Equis Tech Support replied to me. - Real-Time local folder updates are not working for Forex Intraday symbols. There are soooo many gaps in the data that render the charts unusable. - for years the MS users asked for 2/4 and 8 hours time frames support and the feature is still not there. - no higher time frame support for indicators on a lower time frame chart. I have now 5 plug-ins for MS that is quite a signifficant tools amount for any trading platform to consider to switch to another one, but I know this: when I will finish my Forex "apprenticeship" and I will start to make some money out of a regular trading activity, I will seriously reconsider to stay with MS or to migrate to TradeStation that seems to be the platform of choice for most of the high-tech researchers on trading (i.e. Dr. J.Ehlers, Jurik Research and many others). I am personnaly quite dissapointed by what I perceive as a very slow or inexistent interest from the Equis management to fix their own tools, even if the reported bugs/limitations represent only a segment of the majority of MS users. I will appreciate any comments and updates (and I am sure this will be a matter of very high interest for the MS users community) about where the MSFL development is heading as well as the priorities about other bugs and missing features that are listed now on the "Official Wish List" kindly organized by g-stockman.
