Does anyone have a formula for the Rydex Ratio? Or can some one show me how to convert this into an easy language formula?
(NOVA + OTC) / URSA
Thanks for the help:)

hey underground.... it just dawned on me your probably refering to tradestation, 'easylanguage'.... just in case your not, here might be the metastock layout ..... the rydex symbols might be incorrect, there are 2 otc's.....h
nova:=Security("c:\\Metastock Data\\rydex\\ryvnx",C);
otc:=Security("c:\\Metastock Data\\rydex\\rycox",C);
ursa:=Security("c:\\Metastock Data\\rydex\\ryucx",C);
(nova+ otc)/ursa

Perhaps I'm out of my league here, but here goes...
I believe you are right in stating
Rydex Ratio = (Nova + OTC)/Ursa
but it is for the total asset value of each fund, not the closing daily prices.
The reason why this is important is that it is supposed to measure the sentiment of "active" traders. So to my knowledge it is not merely a recasting of the closing prices, but rather a measure of cash flow for "smarter money". An equivalent to this would be information derived from the futures-related Commitment of Traders (COT) report. Just using the daily NAV would not give you this valuable tool. Now if someone who is not an advisor linked into Rydex can get this information, I would be all ears...
Am I right?
Best regards,
Craig

hey craig.... i think your correct, it does make a sizable difference in the chart...... [censored], one of the few things i sub to, uses just the nova/usra...... which to me would give a more polarized view.....h

H!!!
I just knew you were plugged in!! :D
$64 question: Where/how do you get the total cash value of the fund? I get the daily Rydex prices directly, but the cash assets for each fund are not in the report.
Best regards,
Craig

The only way to get the asset value direct from Rydex is to call 1-800-820-0888 and follow their menu options. They do not post this information on their web site nor anywhere else that I know of. I will save you some time on the fund numbers: Nova is 215, OTC is 218 and Ursa is 217. On Friday Dec 30, 2005 the combined asset value for the funds were Nova 325.6 Million, OTC 1.01 Billion and Ursa 455.8 Million. Using the formula provided in the post the Ratio would be 2.93 for 12/30/2005. Unfortunately, I do not know where you can get historical information to create a database for comparison. Maybe someone in the Forum has an idea. Hope this helps, Charley

Charley,
You've been a big help, and thanks for the heads up! =D> I've looked at implementing the Rydex Ratio before, but gave up because I didn't know how to get at the asset values. As for historical data, Price Headley (at BigTrends.com) has accumulated this information, but 10 bucks says his company won't give it up.
Anyone out there with the data?
Craig
