Fixing old Reuters Research URLs [RESOLVED]

Hello All,
Happy New Year to all. Now down to the issue at hand. I hope this is the right forum for this question...
Does anyone know how to fix the Research URLs that point to Reuters information such as Company News, etc?. I've seen this problem before, but I have need of this feature now. The URL errors occur because Reuters changed their pointers away from Multex Investor to a more direct name.
I've tried mucking around the Equis folder in the Program Files area, and I've made a (cursory) search of the Documents and Settings area, but to no avail.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
Craig

hey craig.... we need the new webres dta file..... patricks on vacation, he might be able to get a current one for us when he returns....... here is something that might suffice until then.... just type in the ticker.... admittedly a poor replacement for the real thing.... meant to improve it but been short on time......h

Thanks for the quickie. I figured the fix was buried in an obscure file somewhere, but I shoulda figured out it was the webres.dta file though. Your workaround will be fine until Patrick gets back.
I understand completely the lack of time. It seems the older I get the less time I have...
Thanks again,
Craig

Thanks Patrick.
I did "open" the webres.dta file in Notepad to see what was actually in it. As you would guess, it's a typical binary data file but you can nonetheless see the URL strings that point toward the old Multex Investor site that Reuters shut down about a year ago or so (or maybe it's 2 years now?).
It looks like it's an easy enough fix, but I don't want to go mucking in the webres.dta file with no real probability of success.
For your edification, the new URL for Company News points to...
http://today.reuters.com...aspx?type=cn&symbol=MSFT
where MSFT is the example equity of interest. I'm sure that H's html file has similar info embedded in it. Now, a better piece of software engineering would be to have this in a standard flat file. Of course, that invites people to do all sorts of "unsupported" things. In my estimation, though, it would be easier to maintain and to send out updates when they occur. And, of course, you could have people like me forwarding the fixes...
Thanks again,
Craig

You can edit that file via Borland C and I'm sure there must be other programs too. The best I could get out of Visual Studio was a hex representation... that'll work too, but it would be raw... i.e., butchered. I think these resource files should be user editable through some type of simple interface such as a Properties Window if you right-click on the link.

hey g...... that edit ability might be the reason for 'create a web resource' , the selection just above research.... in a matter of minutes you can recreate the entire equis reuters list identically with the correct urls, you and craig know that but some might not.... my web resource list is too long to add much more so i just made a one page fits all..... someone long ago mentioned wanting a list menu that folded out in a tree fashion.... i made it but probably never posted......h

Thanks H! I never even looked at this function before. I guess my wish can be taken off the wishlist... Every single day I learn something new about MS!
BTW, don't forget to add this pearl to your Tips & Tricks.

Whoa guys,
Is this too good to be true? I looked at the Create a Web Resource some time ago, but never made the connection! I'll check it out and see if it works...
Best regards,
Craig

Guys,
I have a quick and dirty answer regarding the Create a Web Resource editor: Yes, you can make new resources but you cannot edit the old hard-coded stuff. So if we want a "clean" menu setup for the Research and Quotes areas those will have to be supplied by tech support.
I must say, though, the Web Resource editor is simple and very slick considering what it does.
BTW, H, it looks like you can make tree structures in the form of folder definitions. So take a look at it again and see if it gives you what it wants.
Nonetheless, I still think this capability (i.e., editing web resources) should be performed within a .ini flat file. Perhaps we can put that on the list of goodies for the next version of MS. I know the .ini-style file parsers already exist in other msft products, so it should not be difficult for the programmers to make this change...(Patrick could we put this on the Wish List?).
Thanks to both George and H for the heads up in this thread.
All the best for the New Year!
Craig
