I don't see anywhere on the Reuter's DataLink Order page to 'order' Indexes (other than foriegn indexes, which is not what I am looking for). I too get the 'Invalid Symbol' when I try to get .DJI (or any other index) from Reuters. Are you saying that equis has to 'turn on a switch' or something for me to access these 'dot' symbols? If I have to go through some labourous conversion to get indexes I will be sorely dissapointed in MetaStock (there's some other things that bug me too, but I digress). I'm new with this, recent purchase of EOD... but was torn between it and what looks like a more 'integrated' but perhaps somewhat less powerful program - that I won't name here so I won't get flammed, lol. Anyway, I'm beginning to think I would have been better served by the competition, sigh. The main issue I have is with the data updating methods... seems 'clunky' in places. Also, just to say Im not a complete newb... I've written (and traded) extensively with TradeStation (not the one I was thinking of getting, but got MetaStock - I had TS, loved it, but ... lol... couldn't justify it's $100/month cost. I figured to get a full featured EOD (ie MetaStock) and not have any other bills (although, it looks to me that Im sorta 'trapped' into using Reuters DataLink - haven't seen an easy way to get 'free' data from, say, yahoo finance). Soooo... lets see, I like MetaStock for it's ease of Charting, dislike the data delivery, updating (sigh, yes, I do miss real time!) Ok, just had to get that off my chest... I'm determined to not pay a lot for charting capabilities, but would really like to see the Data Delivery be much easier to work with. I find myself working up some simple indicators easy enough (though, not as easy as in TS EasyLanguage - at least not yet)... Anyway, the main problem I have RIGHT NOW is this darn .DJI won't load. What gives???

Wow, another happy Christmas time attitude! Well Zen, you made quite a splash with your first post. I'd have to say that for using the handle 'ZenMaster', you're not quite there yet... but, in your words, I digress. First off, I moved your post to the feedback section where it belongs. It seems that the central theme of your post was to complain about MetaStock. I suggest that the next time you come to some place new that you look around and get a feel for the place before unloading with how dissatisfied you are. My advice to you is not to be unhappy, go with the competition. Life's too short for those little annoyances we call satisfaction. Please, read the forum rules. Find out what the purpose of this forum is, and isn't. This isn't the help desk or support line. You'd have to have one of those "labourous conversion to get indexes" by calling the support services that you paid for when you purchased EOD. By the way, it might actually take a minute or two for them to help you through your problem... but, I agree, 'laborious' is subjective... sorta like, it's laborious to run a spell checker before hitting the submit button. As far as free data goes, there are hundreds of posts regarding that subject. It is mentioned in the FAQ too. If you were to labor some at Google you might get about 14,000 hits, but again, I digress. BTW, there is nothing in life worthwhile that is 'free'. For some free samples of 'constructive criticism' visit our WishList section.

hey zen..... the answer to your first question would be a yes..... the 'broad market ' data package runs me a little over a hundred bucks a year it includes the '.' symbols and the 'x.' symbols.... several of the meta supplied layouts require advance/decline type symbols which are included in it also.... just notice i did not have it listed on my symbols page..... i'll correct that error shortly.... not clear on your through some labourous conversion part.... but i'm sure you've experinced the vast array of index symbol differences when using sites such as big charts, yahoo, clearstaion, stockcharts and such..... thats just the deal.... really not clear on your data updating methods... seems 'clunky' in places part..... in 4 clicks, less than 2 seconds, i'm downloading everything and so should you be.... take a look at the express download feature..... and your last question was answered first...... hang in there it gets better and easier each day......h

WTG Hayseed, I'm usually of the type not to answer criticism with criticisim wether warranted or unwarrented until first trying to find out reason why.Its quite obvious theres an upset at not being to get the software to do what you want it to do and it could be quite frustrating thus letting people know that your upset.Just hang in there Zenmaster you will learn to appreciate it as you get familiar with it. I remember feeling somewhat the same kind of feelings with the data and it was all steming from missunderstanding and not enough data on how to use it then I got familiar with it and it was just a matter of a couple of clicks and the experience was very nice afterwards... Then I stummbled upon this forum and all the people that make up the forum and my whole purpose in buying metastock came back to life -in realizing the power metastock and what you could do with it...its just a matter of learning the language and communicating with it so Zenmaster give it time and become one with it the only way I know how by learing and communicating with it....just like you would a body... putting it through the motions and before long you have it doing what seems physically impossible.

There is a big difference between criticism (investigating, evaluating and analyzing) and negativity... even between negative criticism (unfavorable comparisons) and negativity. This is not the place to be frustrated or upset. Dissatisfaction to this degree requires support from people that are paid to resolve issues; i.e., customer support. While this forum has tons of resources and members willing to help, a central theme to satisfaction is helping oneself too; not to mention a fine point of forum etiquette. If anyone found my earlier comments abrasive, I'm sorry. You all know well that I will do whatever I can to help people find the answers they are looking for. Unfortunately, I have to maintain the peace too; it is neither fun nor easy, but a labor to help see this forum grow. Without moderation and oversight, lawlessness would pursue. Surely, a moderator's life is never dull... especially around Christmas. ZenM- Please rephrase your remarks and let us know exactly what problems you are having, where you have looked for the answers, who you have talked to, etc. and we will try to give you an honest response. Does MS have shortcomings? Sure, but all software does. There are workarounds for some things available, and Hayseed has certainly published volumes on Tips and Tricks. Let's start over on the right track... just submit your questions in the appropriate area of the forum as a new thread. This one is now locked.
