Exploration of Securities list created by Downloader

I am using MetaStock v9.0. When I search from the index of the online help manual about 'Maintaining Lists of Securities', the following statement is quote:
NOTE: Explorations and system tests can be run on a list that has been created in The DownLoader, but the lists that are saved to the favorites folder after running a system test or exploration can't be used in The DownLoader.
In fact, I found the above statement work in the opposite way! Exploration cannot run on list that created in Downloader. THe Downloader can use the favorites folder!
Can anyone tell me how can I run an exploration from a list that has been created in the Downloader?
Thank you!

hey pyeung..... the downloader has several uses, the common one is to download and store local data.... for the downloading purpose it can only use folders that are set up for data files..... the lists saved in the favorites are actually short cuts to charts in your local data folders.... the exerpt you quoted is refering to that....
creating folders using the downloader can be intimadating at first, or was for me, but in no time it'll be the opposite..... the pink and sparkly deal is a local joke on our favorite target......
here are some sym files to use, those right now do not include names, the crash test dummy music is for patrick...... i'm in the process now of adding lists including names, so unless a trophy 4 point steps out quick, shortly there will be some more columns, names included....... holler back if ya don't follow.....h

Hi Hayseed,
Thank you for your quick and detail reply! However, you can't solve my problem!
My data vendor always adds new securities in the existing data folders which I have saved as a favorite folder for running exploration. Whenever there is a new addition, I must recreate a new favorite folder otherwise the new securities will not include in my exploration. It is quite trouble to create a new favorite folder.
However, it is very easy to add a securities in DownLoader. I just only tick the added securities and saved it. Therefore it is very convenient for me if 'Explorations and system tests can be run on a list that has been created in The DownLoader'.
In fact I should should ask how to add a securities to an existing favorite folder.

I probably should keep my mouth shut but....... try this..
1.) in downloader.. write down the path of the folder that your downloader downloads to.
use (tools/download prices tabs) to find out.
2.) in metastock.... open a chart "FROM THAT FOLDER".
3.) run a exploration and when the "select securities" window comes up,
select -remove all- then -all securities-
the next window should list all files in the downloader folder.

Pyeung-
JohnL is exactly right. The method he outlined will work in the Favorites folder and the 'explorations' and 'results of last exploration' subfolders. When working with the current version of MS, the easiest method of exploring the peculiar 'favorites' folder is to start MS. Select OPEN | FAVORITES and then double-click on a chart name to load the chart. Once the selected chart is open, press CTRL-E to start the Explorer. Once Explorer is open, press ALT-X to start a new exploration. Next, ALT-E followed by ALT-A to clear old explorations and select new ones. Now... the securities you see should be the ones you are interested in. Do what you want with them.
HTH,
George
BTW, thanks John. Perhaps a 'real' favorites folder can be developed in a future release of MS.

An alternative would be to open all of the charts in the 'results of last exploration' favorites folder and select SaveAs and save them as copies in another folder. You'd have to save them individually, but it might be worth it... only you can answer that...
Good luck again! :D
