PKN and here is the dillema Reuters will use as name PKN Orlean but what symbol they will use? #-o If I know what symbol they will use I can setup then it manually and dont wait until I can download update.... (1 month) is so long for update... also If I purchase subscription on Reuters datalink vendor for U.S stock do I have to update symbol manually? or will be update everyday automatic? I have never got a Reutersdatalink as my data vendor before...

Regarding the Reuters Datalink part of your question, you will use the Downloader to update your folders sometime after the end of the trading day.

hey konrad.... you will have to manually update your localy stored data folders.... there is an advantage to adding those quickly, if your into trading the volatility thats common in the first couple months.... reuters will use the symbol relayed to them by the exchange involved..... most exchanges, warsaw included, will introduce the new companies ahead of time.... often that type info will be in the 'events' section' or possibly 'news' like on the amex..... the new symbols will most often be included in the press release..... they might not trade for months later but its best to go ahead now and put them in your folders..... don't rely on memory, do it then.... or at least email the page to yourself if your a lucky soul on 3 month holiday in the islands...... i'll be looking for that warsaw link on your site.....h

The letters after the . tell which exchange that symbol is on. So, AGOD.WA is on the Warsaw exchange. All symbols on that exchange will have the .WA, so you can know that will need to be there for any symbol on that exchange. With US stocks, Reuters uses the same symbol as listed on the exchange's site. I am unfamiliar with Reuters DataLink's foreign symbols so I can't say why you see the symbol different in the DownLoader than on the exchange's site. Someone in support, such as Doc, may be able to better help you on that.

Hey G.stockman and Hayseed you guys are right about updating symbol database in downloader... but that come with U.S stock not a European Stock Exchange(WSE) Warsaw Exchange name Reuters Symbol: Name: AGORA Name: AGORA SYMBOL: AGO Symbol: AGOD.WA Name: PKO BP Name: PKO BP SYMBOL: PKO Symbol: PKOB.WA Hey Brussel As I mention and also see this "Think"(extent) that they add .WA to Warsaw Stock Exchange... But the worry part is they still use diffrent letter on symbol as you see... On WSE Securities Name AGORA symbol AGO REuters Name AGORA symbol AGOD.WA see symbol diffrent as is on Warsaw Stock Exchange... the little letter |"D" is diffrent :? ... and as you see I dont know what letter they adding to each symbol.. and all symbol have added some letter that why is diffrent than in WSE... if I know the little letter... I will dont have a dillema :crylol: That drive me crazy if I can get a symbol name .. miss chart... you know what I mean...  Best Regard Konrad

I saw that you said you see a different symbol. I said:

Before that, I was explaing about the .WA only. Symbol databases are updated once a month and contain futures, mutual funds, indices, and US and Canadian stocks. So, you correct. Currently only the US and Canadian stocks are in the symbol database. Everything else in there should be international as well. I do believe that there are .sym files on www.equis.com that have the international stocks that should be getting updated the once a month with the symbol database. I could be wrong on that, so you will want to check the download section on www.equis.com.

Well, I think Branden summed it up nicely. You will probably just have to create a sym file every so often and use the Downloader to choose securities from your sym file. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy. Check out the FAQ and forum search for more info on sym files and data.

I am sorry but I do not have a great answer for this. We do not have any early notification of symbols. After a Comapny goes IPO and is trading we would be able to look it up and give you the symbol if you would like to email us. Regards Doc
