Hello !
I am using Metastock 9.0.
Is there any possibility to create automatically updating links to local data files ? I have looked for plug-ins on the Internet, but I have not found anything in that direction.
Local data files could be formatted exactly in MetaStock's style. The only trouble I have is to make MetaStock automatically look and refresh its initial data with the latest (without duplicating dates for instance), all the more that this concerns several stocks.
Any clue ? Does MetaStock 9.1 allow this ?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Idy

MetaStock Professional collects data in Real time and will update and store data in real time.
The DownLoader, the data collection program that comes with Metastock, can be set to download EOD data each day at a specific time.

Thanks for your answer, though my question was slightly different.
To be more specific, I am using the software to follow up funds, in particular European funds, which data I collect automatically in csv/txt/xls files, because I have not found any data vendor proposing all funds I would be interested in.
To come back to MetaStock, where can I change in the software the data source (especially local) ?
Thanks.

Hey Idy-
This can be done for sure... but wil require a little programming ability on your end. One possible solution would be to create a DDE link to MS Word and write a macro to store your collected data in a txt file. If you wanted xls specifically, create the DDE link in Excel. If you want custom reports, etc. do it in Access. Choices, choices...
Anyway, look up DDE in your user's manual. Also check out OLE.
I am currently writing an external program that will do what you're asking, but I don't have an estimate on the completion date. Maybe in the next month or so... right now, it is pretty busy in my neck of the woods.
If you're using QuoteCenter data, I can probably jump start your efforts. If not, perhaps I can be a resource for you. Just let me know.

Thanks g_stockman for your quick answer.
To make sure I understand you : it is possible to program DDE or OLE links that would automatically update a whole series securities in Metastock with data existing in Excel (for example). For instance :
1) I have 10 securities (actually funds) which I have filled in with data using the individual datasheet of each security within the Downloader, let us say with data until end 2004.
2) I have individual worksheets in Excel for each security and its corresponding data between 2003 and 2005.
3) I could develop a DDE or OLE link from each Excel worksheet to the Downloader's datasheet so that data would be automatically updated (also preventing data to be entered twice : in this case, all data before 2004). Am I right ?
I am not using QuoteCenter - does this feature come with v9.0 ? Could you tell me a bit more about it or give me some help links on this topic ?
Anyhow, I would be quite interested by your (future) program.
Thanks again for having the taken the time to answer my question.
Best.

Quote:DDE or OLE links that would automatically update
Yes. I am doing it now with QuoteCenter data. However, your data provider will have to support DDE. I am updating 100 symbols all in real time for my own trading, but I have set up samples for the forum before with nearly 500 symbols updating.
Who is your data provider?
Thanks for the link, but I am writing my own code. :)
