I had support enter my computer, and try different settings... end result is to upgrade to 9.1 , for $249.oo. XP is more compatible with versions 8.1 and up.
I am going to try my win98 HDrive as slave with XP HDrive. I hope XP does not stop win 98 from getting through.
If it does not work, try win98 as master HDrive and XP as slave. Will not have an answer untill I try it tonite

At 10:40AM 20 Oct 05. Blue screen and more blue screens, asking for any new programs to be removed. F8 into safe mode and remove program. I restart press F8 , no HDrive, over and over. Shut down , put in win98se HDrive, works ok. Email Microsoft, read about Blue Screen/ Memory dump/ NTFS/ FAT/ Partitions/ FDisk/ Dual Boot.
Near the end of loading XP about 50 files would not load in. Phoned local shop, was told ALL dust has to be removed from under motherboard ,and around rams. Load XP through CD Burner. XP Home is on, put in ZoneAlarm and MetaStock 6.5. Try open folder, it worked......within a minute Blue Screen. F8 at restart = no HDrive.
3:20AM XP home loaded again. From everything I have read,
http://www.microsoft.com...rt/russel_october01.mspx
And at the bottom of the site, "Multibooting made easy" should work. I got as far as FDisk partition, and it stopped at 0% progress. I will read more, and try again

Hey Joan-
R U trying to use the old 98 drive in your XP computer for additional storage or for access to files that are already stored on the drive? Utilities like fdisk can ruin the day if you're trying to preserve data. There are several good hard disk partitioning programs with a GUI available. This will allow you to see what you're trying to achieve. Partition Magic comes to mind... that's what I use. :)
I did what you're trying to do a long time ago. I can't remember the exact specifics anymore...
If you want the option to boot to either 98 or XP, seems like they both have to be set up as master drives- drive jumpers set to master. One IDE cable will plug into the motherboard primary controller slot and one will plug into the secondary slot. The master drives (hard drives) need to be located at the end of the IDE ribbon cable. Put the 98 disk on the primary controller. You will have to install a boot manager to switch between the two OS's at startup. I used Boot Magic.
If you install the 98 disk as a slave, I believe the data can still be read by XP, but I can't remember for sure (XP can read the FAT32 format... Win98 can't read the NTFS format??). If you choose this route, you won't be able to dual boot (again, I don't think).
There is also some FAT32 partition limitation that might be messing you up. I think around 8Gb. If you ran FDISK on a 40Gb disk, you might only have a single partition now.
Well... as I type this, I'm thinking about how useless this is. Hmm... I wish I could be there to help you sort it out. I'm much better with visual cues!

I have not done anything yet.
I was going to try 2 HDrives, but do not want to chance having to re install both HDrives, again.
I have a question for any one able to install/run MetaStock 6.5
and upgrade to 6.52, on XP Home sp2. Did you use FAT or NTFS?
Going to try to partition one 10 GB HDrive

And at the bottom of the site, "Multibooting made easy" should work. I got as far as FDisk partition, and it stopped at 0% progress. I will read more, and try again

I installed XP Home FAT, Windows Update to sp1. (turned off Windows Updates, I will not let sp2 install)
MetaStock 6.52, and Downloader 702, are working now.
