The Equis site lists both programs and appears to be significant overlap, with the FX version $300 cheaper. What is the difference? On neither discussion of the progams is there any chart that compares features and allows a consumer to make an informed decision. It would seem that both would do equities and FX since both data is included in the Quotecenter package at $139/mo. Were some studies leftout of the FX version, or only available in the FX version?
It appears that Equis marketing is equally confused. Today I received an email and a snail mail marketing piece from them. The email focused on Pro FX with " MetaStock Pro FX together with QuoteCenter - powered by Reuters - form the easiest, fastest, and BEST way to access premium level real-time information for the FOREX, equities, futures, and other markets directly from your computer." When accessing the embedded link on the email, it suddenly switches to Pro 9.1 and no reference to Pro FX with "Try MetaStock Professional 9.1 and receive 30 days of QuoteCenter data and 30 days of FX Trader's Advantage FREE! "
Likewise was the mailed item with the same offer above as it only mentioned Pro 9.1 for Quotecenter, and while discussing forex trading and FX Traders Advantage plug-in, it NEVER mentioned Pro FX. What gives?

Both ... Some studies are only available in FX and some studies are not available in FX .... I am not sure that there is anything else different.
I will let Marilyn ( She works in marketing :P ) answer your other questions :D

 Well - tough questions but I will do my best... :)
Quote:he Equis site lists both programs and appears to be significant overlap, with the FX version $300 cheaper. What is the difference?
Here is the high level deal. Professional has all the capabilities... Pro FX is basically a slightly reduced version of Pro (not sure what has been removed - I will be right back on that one) that is geared to looking at currency pairs and not everything like the regular Pro. So - if you want to trade something other than FOREX then don't bother with fx and just do the regular Pro.
Quote:It appears that Equis marketing is equally confused.
:) Well - here is the deal... before like a week and a half ago there was no upgrade path to Pro FX... If you already had EOD you could either buy Pro FX or Pro... if you got Pro FX and then decided you wanted regular Pro then you had to pay all over again (I know, I know... not my decision...) but our new CEO said that was a bit dumb and we put together an upgrade path... now you can go EOD > Pro FX > Pro without wasting $...
Quote:the mailed item with the same offer above as it only mentioned Pro 9.1 for Quotecenter, and while discussing forex trading and FX Traders Advantage plug-in, it NEVER mentioned Pro FX. What gives?
We probably have you in our database as already having some version of Pro... If you have Pro by itself you don't want to go backwards to Pro FX... and the 9.1 Pro has all the templates and indicators of Pro FX anyway... so you get Professional 9.1 and QuoteCenter.
Does that make sense???
Holler at me if I have been confusing!

Thanks for the info. Actually, I have Metastock 9.1 (EOD).
While you always wanted me to purchase Pro, never had a need as am basically a swing trader, 1 to 5 days, with equities and work during normal market hours. Come home, see if a limit order hit and have cash for next position(s).
Now discovered the opportunity of Forex and real time becomes a viable possibility that would enhance non-swing positions. In addition to the 1 or 2 day positions with wider 100+ pip stop/limits where EOD (and brokerage java based RT for entry timing) suffice, now can set intraday positions with 10 to 20 pip stop/limits. Set EUR or GBP positons befor leaving for work, or AUD or JPY positions before going to sleep then see which stop/limits hit. Literally able to make money in my sleep.
It is in that short term trade that Metastock Pro becomes viable, far superior to the 'free' brokerage graphs. Seems strange that you would create the FX specific version. FX trading by the general public is relatively new, and most technically oriented FX traders learned their skills on equities or commodities...and still maintain that trading to some degree. It just doesn't make sence to have created the dedicated FX version, particurally when the marketing material indicated that Pro 9.1 has the FX dedicated systems and templets.

:) Thanks for the info from you as well...
I am going to make a couple of admissions.. so hopefully I won't get in trouble. Earlier this summer we got a new CEO. He has come along (from the inside) with some great visions for the company and the product. With those in mind he has shaken down the company. The last Marketing Manager was there for 10 years... he left in July. The last Product Manager (for MetaStock) was there for almost as long... he left in Sept. Since then we have been putting in place a team to move forward, get off of our collective behinds and make MetaStock #1 again.
Our new Product Manager, Grant, has been lurking around the boards. He is going to post his "I am here and looking forward to working with you all" message shortly. He has a great vision for the product and for helping or existing customers.
Now... I believe you when you say that we have probably been pestering you to go to Pro. Up until recently we weren't really segmenting well and just sort of throwing blanket messages out there. Our new Marketing Manager, Paul, and I are working together to identify who is in a segment and what they care about... so hopefully you should receive offers on things that might actually interest you..
And finally - about the Pro FX... Well - we are working with some national FOREX groups and a couple of brokers, hence the FX version. The user groups don't really have any interest in trading anything but currencies. And the membership and commitment were large enough that the decision was made to make a FOREX only version at a slightly different price... but that all the stuff would be put into Pro as well so that those users didn't miss out... It is seen as kind of an interim step between EOD and full Pro ..
Have I been too long winded? :) Keep the feedback coming.. I promise it helps me out TONS!!! :) M

Thanks for the info and glad I could help with the feedback.
Marilyn, You may want to email me. I use to work for a competing software company - inside sales and training seminar instrutor - and for a variety of reasons it is probably best that I not post suggestions in this forum. Uncertain if you can edit out my posting here, so won't list my email, but in your records it begins the same as this user ID. Feel free to pick my brain for ideas.
I noticed another thread started on similar topic - Pro 9.1 vs Pro FX. It illustrates the need to clarify the confusion, create a decision tree. As a side note, I got another mailing today. This one was designed for Pro FX and it was interesting holding the prior days Pro 9.1 brochure side by side. Unfortunately, I don't see form numbers on them, but one directed me to www......./cu105 where the other was www......./pm105. While I did note how you edited the brochures to read slightly differently, as a suggestion, take a yellow and pink highlighter and highlight Pro 9.1 and Pro FX. See how many times they show up, thus the confusion.
