MetaStock 6.52 / XP home. "Open folder" closes MetaStock. Installing all programs to another hard drive. On previous hard drive, compatibility "mswin.exe" to run win98 worked. I had just started setting it up two weeks ago, that hard drive is not recognized by computer any more. I have tried different compatibility combinations. Firewalls on/off. Noticed Only on this hard drive set up, "mswin.exe" wants to be on the Internet through ZoneAlarm. Ran same XP home cd, * Check system compatibility. *Check system automatically. = That Report ...... A conflict occurs during an upgrade to microsoft windows XP when Equis MetaStock 6.5 is installed on Microsoft windows NT 4.0 (with service pack 3 or below) and a password is created for the Downloader for Windows program. You should delete the Downloader password before continuing with the upgrade. To delete the Downloader password Open the Downloader for windows program. Under tool, click vendor options. Delete the user name and password, and click ok. You can enter a new password after the upgrade is complete.

So you changed the compatibility setting to run under windows 2000 mode and also checked the disablevisual themes option? Patrick

I just used compatibility 2000,and disable visual themes, for mswin, optionscope, dlwin, and dlwin express. Now formula syntax file (MS65SNTX.DTA) is not the correct version. Custom indicators, system tester, and explorer cannot be accessed. "open folder" still closes MetaStock

Please try these steps ... http://forum.equis.com/msfaqs.php#53 I do seem to recall something specific and similar to your issue, I will post something if I can remember. Also can we confirm that you are using 6.52 and not 6.5 Patrick

Ahh... So did you install the patch and then the downloader 7.02 ... If yes I would suggest that you try to reinstall the downloader 7.02 ... My guess is it did not install properly. Let me know how it goes :D

XP add/remove unintalled less than half the folder/files. I deleted equis/downloader from windows explorer. =restart. load MetaStock 6.5 \\downloader 702 ver: 2.1.5.0 6.84MB =restart. Then ms652.exe ver:5.1.0.0 4.72MB =restart. NOTICED msw652.exe was blocked in properties, I unblock. The Downloader 702 was not blocked. All this so far is without compatibility settings. I tried "open folder" still closes MetaStock. Now in compatibility, try from win95 to 2000, with/without "disable visual themes" still closes Meta stock

You need to install 6.5 then the patch to 6.52 and then the downloader 702. That might be the problem right there.

I was having problems, Nov 8 1999, I was emailed to Get Downloader 7.0. It was supposed to in before Oct 31 1999. then the Y2K patch "msw652" came out. On 7/6/2001 Downloader 702.exe was emailed. Would you 1st load MetaStock 6.5, and right away change compatibility settings. Or install 6.5 , patch msw652, downloader 702, and then compatibility settings? I had miss read your last post, and thought 6.5, then 7.02.

That is the order I have always used. Mswin.exe is the only one I have in compatibility of 2000 and disable visual themes. "open folder" closes MetaStock. I had loaded the wrong hard drive, so I put my newer hard drive in and loaded all my programs, including MetaStock. It all worked from Oct 6 05. till Oct 16 05. Now computer does not see that hard drive. I took the hard drive electric board off, disconnected the flat wire feed, and put it back together again. Still nothing, banged it on the table a few times, still nothing. That Hard drive was loaded first with everything, then registered with microsoft. This hard drive was regitered, and now being loaded. MetaStock is the main and still last program Both hard drives were blank before installing XP

Thank you Support at equis The only work around we have other than upgrading to a compatible version is the change the compatibility mode. On the other HDrive support emailed a link for Downloader 8.01. I was getting a message to contact Equis

downloader 801 was for "can not find/reach host", to "contact Equis". I did not install it yet. I just tried my old win98 computer to update MetaStock program.I only have S&P500, and I type in the price all day. The last time I downloaded prices was 1/13/05, thats the last time for volume. Today I added the CD (Canadian Dollar), and wanted to download it. It reaches 192.165.218.19:7983 , but will not connect in.

The address of the forum is http://forum.equis.com Host connection failed means that either you are not connected, firewall is blocking your connection or your username and password and typed in wrong ... Make sure that both the user name and password are typed in CAPS Patrick  PS : " dlwin express 192.165.218.19:7983" This is right so don't change it ...

I am on win 98 HDrive , on computer that runs XP HDrive. Downloader 702 worked. This is the HDrive I downloaded MetaStock every night, for years, no problem. Just remembered, when I wanted to load XP onto the other problem HDrive, nothing would start. I tried the Win98 CD from the 200mhz win98se computer. (that would not Download) Not hooked to Internet, a message came up " this is a pirated copy". I tried another win98se CD , also "pirated" The Win98se I bought 6 years ago, is the one Iam on now, and it works. Still does not explain same XP CD, two HDrives, one accepted MetaStock, and the one I need to accept MetaStock, does not
