Hi, I have Metastock Pro with Quotecenter and am trying to build a EOD database. I am currently downloading a large amount of symbols both US and CAN but am having two problems. First - Downloads are very slow-(46-116 quotes per min)-I assumed this was due to errors so I have deleted a number of securites that were not updating: possible old, non trading, name change ect. This did not help. I am using a cable modem so I don't think that will limit the speed ?? Now my downloads are still slow and I have a constant problem with the error Overlapping Date. when I look at my data it seems ok and i am only requesting the current days data. I usualy update the database around 7pm eastern 4pm pacific. Any help would be appreciated on how to solve this. Andrew :?

Hi Andy - There have been some issues with downloading QC data for end of day... See g's dilema here http://forum.equis.com/v...=0&postorder=asc&start=0 You can get a freebie subscription to Datalink if you are a QC subscriber and want to download end of day data from Reuters... just call one of the sales guys and tell them I sent you. Though there were some other posts recently where people were happier with the QC download (hayseed do you remember this??) Well - I hope this helps a little... :) M

Marilyn Thanks for the quick reply I will call my rep tommorow. I decided to delete one of my folders and reload the history. It is now downloading 29304 quotes per minute so the connection must be good. Still don't know if it will fix the update problem I would like to keep the quotecenter data (same symbols everywhere) but if it will make this easier I will use data link. So far I am pleased with the quality of the data from quotecenter it is just the EOD problem I am having. I if anyone has had a similar problem and figured out a solution other than switching to data-link please reply Thanks again, Andrew

hey andy.... cable modems can be missleading as to speed in some areas but thats not the problem.... the reason for the large jump in quotes per minute is due to updating months of data per security.... once your folders are all up todate, the quotes per minute will fall back.... my solution was to create folders for my specific daily needs.... those purpose built folders are downloaded nitely..... being less than 800 symbols total, they load fast...... the remaining folders which i seldom if ever use are downloaded while asleep or such times..... my first 6 months with meta i downloaded excessively, everyone probably does.... now a year later i find myself downloading less and less....... i used esignal prior to QC's recent invention, and have a data link account but use QuoteCenter exclusivly now..... like you mentioned, its nice to have a single symbol database......h

Hey Andy- Welcome to the forums! I have been using QC since day one. I trade both RT and EOD. I've never had a glitch with RT. As far as updating EOD data, I can download 500 symbols very quickly... maybe a couple of minutes??? I don't want to catch any flack about fish stories here... the point is that it is fast (sorry h, I'm not kb/sec and baud savvy). I started out using the QC feed for RT and Datalink for EOD. When I 'discovered' this I tried changing it all over to QC and quickly discovered symbol compatibility issues- namely, the country prefixes. I wound up recreating my EOD symbols using the QC format... no biggie. As you report too, I had numerous days where I would get an 'overlapping dates' error. This made no sense, since I had not tried to download anything for the day. Take for instance last update done on Friday after market close... next update attempted Monday after market close... result overlapping dates. I investigated this briefly and found that my actual data file contained data current through Friday. There was no Monday data to overlap. It doesn't make sense. I have found two workarounds: 1) open the security database and delete the existing data except for the first row of data and redownload the data. If you do this, your formats and indicators, etc. will stay intact. Still, it is not bulletproof since the problem will surely happen again in the near future. 2) use Datalink to get you EOD data. Even though the symbol format is a little different, it has a stable performance record. Hope this reassures you that you're not alone. Call for your free Datalink feed. It's the only way to know that you won't have EOD problems at the present time.
