Listed are the number of market trading days from 1984 through 2004 (21 years)
1 Year with 248 trading days *
10 Years with 252 trading days
8 Years with 253 trading days
2 Years with 254 trading days
*Should have but 252 day but market was closed for 4 days as a result of the 09/11/01 World Trade Center Attack.
The average number of trading day over this period is 252.4. If the extra 4 days for the year 2001 were added the average would be 252.6.
The bottom line is 252 days is a good choice.
