Trailing Stop A stop-loss order that is set at a percentage level below (for a long position) the market price. The price is adjusted as the price fluctuates. ok, so If I have a stop loss at 7% how much a price is adjusted? Can I choose adjustment price on percent or a dollars? or is automatic increase? if yes how many point or percent increase? Thanks!!! :D

Ameritrade has trailing stops. I have not used them yet, but I have read they are available.

Hi Konrad - A trailing stop simply means that you want to get out of your trade if the price of your security drops below 7% (or whatever you set) of the highest value.... This is the simplistic view... So - You buy at $100 - your stop is at $93. Your security can go down to $94 without getting you out of the trade automatically but if it drops below $93 - you are out. If you security goes up to $150 (without going below the original $93) you stop is set at $139.50. See - the trailing stop sort of follows along behind you - but never goes backwards. Now - a stop loss (same scenario - buy at $100 - goes up to $150) will sit at $93 without following you up the price ladder. Hope this helps! M

A trailing stop will follow you automatically. A stop loss you will have to move yourself... :) M

Scottrade has trailing stops. I have not used them. (I BELIEVE IT’S CORRECT) Buying and Selling (Ex. ABC current price is $20) Want to establish a Long Positions Buy Limit Buy price is set below current price on a limit order Order would be buy limit $19 Buy Stop Buy price is set above current price on a stop order Order would be buy stop $21 Want to sell a Long Positions Sell Limit Sell price is set above current price on a limit order Order would be sell limit $21 Sell Stop Sell price is set below current price on a stop order Order would be sell stop $19 Want to establish a Short Positions Sell Limit Sell price is set above current price on a limit order Order would be sell short limit $21 Sell Stop Sell price is set below current price on a stop order Order would be sell short stop $19 Want to cover a Short Positions Buy Limit Sell price is set below current price on a limit order Order would be buy to cover limit $19 Buy Stop Sell price is set above current price on a stop order Order would be buy to cover stop $21
