Is there a way of copying the underlying data from a line study, such as the Raff Regression Channel, to an Excel worksheet like the OLE function for indicators? I know the data is there because I can see it with a mouse over but have not been able to see the entire set of data or copy it to an Excel spreadsheet from Metastock.

Hey crw- Heyseed recently answered this one (pretty closely) in this thread: http://forum.equis.com/viewtopic.php?t=1434curity | Datasheet screen. Save your work. Then you can use TOOLS | CONVERT to export your data or you can copy and paste it to Excel directly.

Thanks Stockman, yes the OLE for indicators works great and I use frequently but this question is for the line studies - I do not think that is what Hayseed was talking about. The only thing I can get on the line study is an object - I need the underlying data. I am still looking but so far have not found the answer. The only solution is to mouse over and copy the data manually - which seems silly when the data is there electronically. There just has to be a another way to get it.

Hey crw- Sorry, perhaps I'm not understanding your question then. Say you want to copy the values for a moving average, lower channel line, price ROC, etc. The procedure is the same. When you paste the values into the datasheet these line study values will all be listed in the "open" column right beside their date. If your purpose is to export the values anyway, the "open" label is no biggie. All of the other fields will contain a zero.

Ok- Just takes me a little bit... it is a problem with the regression lines. Apparently, some line studies will copy and some won't. I'm going to keep trying... :)

Well... not a solution, but a possible workaround. You can create a custom indicator to plot the regression channels and export the data in the manner described earlier. I can't figure out how to do it with the built-in indicator though. I achieved success using Jose Silva's formula:

Thanks Stockman, I have been working on this same concept using an old custom formula I had created back in 6.52 days. This one is much better than the one I have. It does have a limation in that I do not see an option to extend the plot to the right. Actually, I am not sure if it can be done with a custon formula. I have been trying to work forward of the right edge and have not had any success with Metastock and have had to move to Excel. Thus the need to be able to transfer data to Excel. If you or any forum member has any information on how to forward plot the Parabolic SAR, Timeseries or any of the Linear Regression line studies with custom formulas I would certainly be interested in the information. I know Metastock has its limitations, but it seems it should be unnessary to have to work around some of this stuff since the data is already there in Metastock. Logic would indicate that if you can extend line studies to the right you should be able to extend custom formulas to the right also.

Hey Stockman, Patrick, et al, here is a solution I found which allows me to do analysis beyond the right edge. I create EOD OHLC data using Excel for say 20 days forward and copy paste into the Downloader for the securities I work with. I supose the data can be linked from Excel back into MS but for now copying works for me. The basic formula I use is: where today = t n = 1 to 20 H t+n = ((H t - L t-n)+L t) L t+n = (H t+n- (H t-n - L t-n)) O t+n = L t+n {the open is used so I can display a Candlestick} C t+n = H t+n {the close is used so I can display a Candlestick} A word of caution - since this is data projected into the future I am not sure how other indicators might react - I am only using projection line studies such as the Raff Regression Channel, Timeseries and the Parabolic SAR that do not rely on the true open or close. Maybe someone else other than myself is interested in this type of analysis. Thanks for your help on my other posts for information. Charley

And here is the chart generated from the data. The chart has the Parabolic SAR, Raff Regression Channels, 3% ZigZag and Jose's Lunar Cycle with vertical lines.
