With the price of projectors coming down, curious if anyone has any experience with using a projector to view charts on a regular basis.
I have been to many MetaStock seminars and like the size and clarity of the big picture provided by a projector but curious as to the practical application of a projector. Would a big flat screen be better on a day to day basis? Any thoughts and recommendations appreciated. :D

hey bill..... was courious as to the size monitors you're using now and just how large of a flat screen are you talking about....
i have'nt been to a seminar or seen the projector so there is no way for me to compare.... but large screens are worth the price.... using multiple large screens is better still..... that might included a graphics card up grade also......h

Ok - just being nosy... where are you at Bill??? :) Couple of times a year they let me out to the seminars (not often but sometimes... :)) I would be pretty obvious because I am the only girl (not in the whole company... just in my division)

hayseed - I currently have a 15 inch screen on my laptop that I use as my primary computer. My desktop has a 17 inch CRT that is 10 years old and I have a 15 inch CRT that is 12 years old and I attach it to my laptop as a second display. I imagine that I would get a 19 inch flat screen if I went that route. I have a nice wall that I could use as a screen for the projector. With all the tool bars and inner windows that I carry on my charts, I would like a bigger screen because when I maximize the inner windows, there is more vertical scale and things show up better, so maybe a bigger screen would mean that I would not need to go through the tedious exercise of maximizing and minimizing windows. I see the price of the projectors are now around $1000 and falling but don't know how durable they are or if they would not live up to my expectation.
Thanks, Bill

Marilyn,
I usually attend in the Boston area. Don't recall seeing you. Usually there are only one or two females in the audience. Last several seminars have been led by the tall fellow who tells the story about going to Fenway Park his first night in town.
Actually, a female presenter might do well at these events. I used to go to the TAG seminars in Las Vegas years ago and Linda Raschke had the best attended presentations. Granted, she has quite a reputation as a trader but it did not hurt that she was a female presenting to a couple of hundred guys. She was never bashful about that fact.

Haven't been to Boston... but I am scheduled to be there in Nov.. so if you go I will catch up with you...
:) I don't present.. Just a chance for me to get out and meet the people who use the product so I can stay in touch with who you all are and what you need. That way I can be the customer voice in planning meetings, etc. This forum has helped TONS! I think that new developments, fixes and next gen things will be all the better because of all of you... :) (plus I love to travel but don't tell anyone... )
The tall guy... Big guy? Mid 30's? Dark hair? Probably Scott. He is a barrel of monkeys (great fun though). I always know when Scott is in the office because he is super rambunctious. We have unleashed him on Asia for a bunch of seminars - he'll be over there all month. :) They are probably not expecting that!

Scott is the man. I went to his presentation a couple of months ago and he said that he just got back from the East. In addition to the latest version of MetaStock and the new data feed, they were pushing ICE as the must have add-on. My friend has had that one since it first came out but stopped using it shortly after acquiring it. At the time, I think it took a while to get a response from ICE, but it is my understanding that they reply rather quickly, now, with your customized system.
I recently upgraded to 9.1 and am thinking of getting the 9.1 with MS data feed. It is my understanding that in addition to getting real-time data you also get EOD and can terminate Reuters DataLink, true?
Also, as when I attended the TAG seminars, the demographics of the attendees at the MS seminars is skewed towards the Lawrence Welk crowd, not that there is anything wrong with that, but I would think that there is a very large market segment under the age of 50 that has not been tapped.

Some things to consider when looking for a projector
1: screen resolution
2;lumens
3:lcd vs dlp
4:1 chip or 3 chip processor
when using my laptop, I have it set at 1600x1200 resolution
if I connect it to a projector, I have to adjust the display to 1024X768
to satisfy the display from the projector
The greater the lumens the brighter the ambient light can be in your room
a lcd projector looks like you are viewing it through a screen door
a dlp projector has a cleaner picture
a 3 chip projector gives a theater like image
unless you are planning on giving presentations you would probally be better off using a flat panel monitor. You can even use a multiple monitor setup

Hey Bill -
Yup - if you get the QuoteCenter real time data we give you the DataLink for downloading end of day data... you can do it with QC but it is super slow and we haven't worked all the kinks out of it yet. :)

Nine years later I have 19 inch and 22 inch monitors attached to my various laptops but thinking that with my aging eyes I need something bigger. Also need to get a new laptop that will be faster and support 2 or more external monitors. For 20 plus years I have used a light grey background on my charts and hated white backgrounds, but my aging, cataract affected eyes no longer seem to like the light grey background. White backgrounds, of all of the available metastock backgrounds, seems to be the best option for me now. I am mostly looking at charts after work when the lighting is dim, so a white background seems to work well for me. As many of the other longtime metastock users in this community are probably close to my age I am wondering if their preferences have changed over the years and what works best for them now, both from a chart layout style perspective and with respect to the hardware that they are using. Thanks, Bill

Before getting a projector gizmo, have you got a HD TV around the house? Works good. I've used both a 42 and 46 incher LCD. Resolution of 1920 x 1080 which is what many of the 'computer' monitors are. A lot cheaper than a projector. I use a 24 inch 1920x1220 LCD monitor with my desktop.
Regarding a new laptop...I have two. One with 15 inch intel i3 processor, the other a 17 inch intel i5 processor @ 2.67GHz (turbo to 2.9GHz.) In System Testing using many iterations, it would drive me up the wall taking so long. Finally got an intel i7 @ 3.4GHz with turbo of 3.9 GHz (which it runs at in most System Testing.) Now System Testing is fun again. I keep the laptops fired up as backups.
And I'll bet that I'm older than you :-)
