Today is Pioneer Day in Utah... this means that most people are off work (not us of course - we are not a Utah company), there is a huge parade and everyone is running around in pioneer getups.
What sort of crazy local holidays do you all have???
Oh - and BTW - Happy Pioneer Day!
Marilyn

Is there a Harry Potter pioneer getup? :P Hey, you didn't tell us that book was 600+ pages. That's a lot of reading.
Florida has an official Possum Day on the first Saturday in August. The 'Possum Festival' that follows lasts for 2 weeks. I wonder if SteveB is into it... he does live in Florida! :smt110

Overgrown rat! :) The australian possums are cute! Way cuter... http://www.hotkey.net.au/~perrelink/Possum.htm - course noone liked them in New Zealand so you could get fabulous possum fur stuff (like bed spreads and stuff)... :) I didn't get one when I lived there... maybe next time I am down there. :)

I am soooo serious! Look here
http://www.kiwinkea.com/rugs.html
http://www.glenorchy-fur.co.nz/bedspreads.htm
They are super soft and fuzzy and you can justify it to yourself by saying this was an introduced specie that is decimating the natural fauna and killing of the indigenous animals...
The glenorchy fur company is the best... tiny little company in this little bitty town outside Queenstown... really nice place to horseback ride. :)

hey marilyn.... clothing is optional but experienced contestants wear as much as possible, due to the fact often you don't finish with what you started.... being dragged behind a tiller has a tendency to unbutten buttens..... if you get my drift....
youngsters seem to like living dangerously and dress accordingly....
btw, the finish line is reserved seating...... never figured out why.....h

hey g.... that ole boy is a stand out ain't he.... thats boss hogg, as we call him, the part time mayor who runs the only store..... a town of only 350 people can't afford to feed him full time..... also can't afford police but then our doors have no locks so obviously none are needed.....
btw, i'm standing down at the finish line with 5 cameras, hoping to get some GOOD pictures to sell to the highest bidder..... nobody escapes the paparazzi, even in hayseedville......h

Up until last year I was a city slicker in the Fort Lauderdale area and had never heard of possum day...unfortunately...certainly would have attended the festivities! Now I'm up here in a small town (outside of Cocoa) and I still have not heard of it...until now. But, I'll make sure my next vacation takes us through here: http://www.roadsideameri...p3?tip_AttractionNo==306
