Hi, I have been running Metastock version 9 E.O.D. and tried to install version 10, without uninstalling 9, but got an error message saying metastock was already installed. I think this has corrupted my data, as now when I try to update my quotes (using a text file from my broker and converting it in the downloader) only a few actually update the rest just stay the same as before. I don't get any error message at all. The ones that do update are at the beginning of the list, i.e. they start with A. I have discovered that if I download the history for a single code it will update but not the entire exchange at once.
I have since uninstalled version 9 and installed 10, copying the historical data, and the problem is the same. I was shocked that my smart charts and even my custom indicators carried across to version 10 even though I uninstalled 9 first. Smart charts I can understand, but I thought the indicators would be deleted. So if there is no way to fix my problem and I need to download a new set of historical data, would it be best to format my computer first and reinstall everything afterwards?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

This sounds like a job for TECH SUPPORT man! Suggest you give them a call or email; they are usually very helpful.

I'd guess your custom Indicators carried over due to the order in which you did things; install 10 over 9, then uninstall 9, then install 10 over itself.

What I don't get is why you had to do anything with the historical data -- it's completely separate from the Metastock software.

If it was me, the first thing I'd do RIGHT NOW is use the ORGANIZER button under EXPLORER to export all your custom stuff to a safe folder, before you do anything else.

Then, if you have a backup of ver 9, take out version 10, run a disk check, restore a backup of ver 9, then export with ORGANIZER again to a different folder, just in case.

Before trying to install ver 10 again, see if ver 9 works right.

FWIW, don't think you need to re-format your hard drive, but should run a disk check -- in Windows Explorer, right-click the drive, click the TOOLS tab and click the CHECK NOW button. It will offer to do it on the next startup, so you have to reboot.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes; might help someone else.

Thanks so much for your reply.
I guess I thought I had corrupted my historical data somehow.... I had read online that the Emaster file can be damaged. That's why I thought I would have to re-download it. I don't know. I am about to purchase a new computer anyway, so I'm going to start from scratch with it and get new data, then I will be able to see if it is a problem with the software or just the data.
Thanks again,
James.
